I love the idea. Since my score is hanging in there at a healthy 3, I would appreciate a quick and painless death. |

Does the poll relate to speed voting for speed challenges only? It doesn't say.

Actually .. the idea was to try tovote so we get a quick 'estimate' is'n it ?
I personnaly fdo not vote for posting the result before sunday night. We still need comments and everything ;-)
So France is bemoling its original opinion ;-)
PS : you guys tell me if you use the expression like 'to put a bemol' on something and if yes ... I suggest this new verb :-) |

I love the idea of a faster voting period for the speed challenges. |

I personally liked the idea of having teh challenge over quickly to start off with, but in the end i voted for 7 days. This is because.
A) Some people work hard during the week and need the weekends to vote.
B) The 'Challenge' of the speed challenge is taking the photo quickly, and I think that the voting should be given the same amount of time as in a regular challenge, as there are the same amount of photos. If people rush the voting, what's the point?

I think this is more a matter of "instant gratification" than anything. With the fast pace of submitting a picture, it seems like it would be fun to continue that pace with the voting. I doubt that most of us will really spend less time/thought voting than we do with normal challenges, even though the deadline is so quick. |

There's 75 entries in the current speed challenge so I'd expect around 80 votes to come in. At this point, 14 hours after voting started I have 50 votes. By the end of day one there will probably be 60. That leaves 20 votes over the next 6 days :-/ ... we already have speed voting, we just need speed results! |

Majority ruled again -- speed challenge voting now spans 3 days.

Cool, I really don't think this should be a problem. 3 days to vote should give even dial-up users a chance to get their votes in. My take on the whole thing is that a speed challenge "should" be voted on in less that the normal time... 3 days strikes me as ideal.
Thanks Langdon! |

You get what you ask for. Speed VOTING. What ever happened to comments? Are we here to boost our ego, or to get advice on how we can improve. Under the pressure of a 24 hour challenge, I would think people would want more advice on how to get a "spur of the moment" shot. I can see the forums in 3 days.
"SUBJECT: NOT EVEN ONE COMMENT!!!
TEXT: I can't believe I didn't get even one comment on my "green" photo. I got 3 ones and no one bothered to even say WHY the voted me a one. (enter 15 more lines of whining here)"
Maybe it will all work out in the end. Who knows. But personally, I'd like more time to comment on the photos.

I'm sorry Heather, I knew this wouldn't be a popular decision with everyone. But I feel the speed challenges should be subjected to a speedier vote. It's one of the things that has always bugged me about speed challenges--24 hours to get a shot--then wait a week to see how it pans out.
I think 3 days should be plenty of time to vote AND comment. But then, I really don't comment as much as I should. I have a tendency to procrastinate. No time for that now. If I feel the desire to comment, I best get on it! Only 3 days to get them in... not a week! And seriously, it might actually get me to comment more. |

I was not thinking of "speed voting" as the main issue, although the continued pressure from that could help add to the fun of a speed challenge. I was more interested in "speed results" to help break up the week and not have to wait so long for the results of a shot that was taken so fast. With that would come sacrifices such as not having the time for more comments and individual critiques... For a "Speed challenge", I would prefer a "speed pace" to the result, remembering that it`s just all for fun! :) |

Speed voting is great for the speed challenges only, but not for the other challenges. Some of us have busy schedules and don't have time to speed vote. |

Heather,
I understand your concern, adn agree with it. What I was thinking with speed voting for the speed challenge is that within 24 hours, it is pretty much shoot, crop, submit for me anyway. With this challenge in particular, I know what is wrong with it, and predicted my score, almost.
Just a couple of pennies from me!

I voted for 7 days also.. the reason i thought 7 days would be better is because of the complaints about low numbers of comments AND the infamous 'people didn't take the time to look at my photo for what it is'....
Instant gratification (or non gratification) seems to be much more popular :)

I think it is completely wrong to change the rules for this challenge, once it's started. I doubt I will have time to vote on all the photos by tomorrow, so I may not vote on any at all...now I've already lost half of the voting period before finding out the rules have changed; this especially hurts those with limited time who were probably against it anyway.
I already don't like the speed voting generally for reasons already mentioned, but this situation much is worse. This is not like borders or an unclear challenge description; there is no imperitive to change the rules of this challenge once it has started. |

Look back through the other speed challenges, pick a few photos at random, and see how many comments were left after the first 3 days - 1 or 2 in most cases.
Your second point would still happen if we had 6 months to vote ; ) |
