I was quite upset that my photo came 186 / 315, when clearly it wasnt that BAD. I admit my admission wasnt great but it was a dam sight better than alot of the pictures of ducks and geese!!

You finished ahead of me.

And I'm gonna guess that taking a 400mm telephoto shot in fog is a bit harder. lol

(IE there are a lot of great shots on this site, some kicked our ass, let's move on - I liked my shot better than half the ones above me too).

Hi Kate.
Nothing wrong with loving your own work!
You've only entered once. Give it some time.

Don't worry about it. a score of 5 is quite respectable. Remember that some voters might not consider cats and dog as fauna. ;-)

Yes your photo certainly wasn`t bad i gave it a 6.
I think your overall score was brought down alot by the 22 1`s and 2`s you got.
You got these because pets are always voted down by some people no matter how good the shot.

do you like your picture, because it features your pet cat?
how would you feel about the pic if it was someone else's cat?

i have a pet dog, he is truly gorgeous, but i have never entered him, because some of his best faces, and expressions cannot be captured on one still image, he is a personality and meeting him in the flesh is far better.( see for yourself by going through the cliche challenge results, i think he came 37, he and the pic is called Jazz)

also i can't and don't expect every- one to feel the same way for him as i do
and maybe this is what makes you think your pic is good, because of your feelings for the cat.

try to not photograph a subject which holds sentimental feelings for you, be subjective, to most people its just a picture.

I gave it a 7.

Then again, I submitted this shot for the portrait challenge, so what do I know? :)

Your picture is 67 Kb,you can post up to 150 Kb size, don't forget size matters here!
Resizing can take lot of the picture quality!

I liked it and gave it a 7, it was a breath of fresh air! I was wondering however if you find none of the comments you receive helpful...?

I was 69th with a score slightly above 6, and I was still disappointed with that! I thought the photo deserved a lot better, but I guess I've been spoilt recently, as far as scores go.

Kate, remember this post:

I think that your leaves are a little light and blown out. I think a little processing would have changed this image for the better. And I also know you're going for 'out of the cam' shots - so take the votes, be happy with it.

If you focuset better on the cat face IMO i would give you 9 or 10 !

I gave you a 7 but I would have given you a little higher score it the cat would have been in better focus instead of the plant life. It looked like you were focused slighting in front of the cats face.

When around 300 people are voting, the score you get is generally (within a tenth of a point or so) the score you deserve.

I gave you a 4. The picture is too busy and not really interesting to me. Just an other cat picture. Plus usually domestic cat are not considered as 'fauna'. Colors were nice, but the cat is not in focus anyway so even as a 'cat picture' I think it's a litlle 'missed'. therefore the 4.
Plus it's your first post and 5 is not bad for a first post.
