aaah!!:) thank you, thank you!
*off to comment everyone's entries*
ps. here's the photo I was going to enter in frame challenge:
I was so upset! the idea was to make a triangle frame around me on the photo. I filled the space around the triangle with color #DDDDDD - the grey color of dpc' background.
BUT I got that awful thin black frame around my photo! so it was a triangle inside a grey box with thin black frame - awful, truly disgusting:((
I'm so disappointed today:(
maybe you know how to make a triangle border without that black frame here ? |

As a balance to Mr. Cheerios, I have a nomination for an honorary general Attaboy.
This man is an incredible photographer in his own right, is considerate and helpful, has a seriously droll sense of humor, and his stats page.....off the charts for how much time he just has to spend for the betterment of his fellow DPCers.
I give you Robert- Bear_Music

Look at those ratios of votes cast to received and comments helpful to made!
That's not a lot of comments to votes necessarily, but considering that he's been here a little over two years that averages out to about FIVE A DAY!!!!
I don't even wanna do the math on how much time he's spent voting!
And the average vote cast ois a skoche above 5.0.
I'm thinkin' he needs a real life, but boy am I glad he's here!
I'm a little biased, but I've gotten two comments from him, both complimentary, both constructive, both VERY insightful.
I know y'all probably have run into him before but he just popped up on my radar recently 'cause of some of his comments on the forums......did I mention that he's a serious voice of reason and mediation on the forums too?
He's my hero!.....8>)
If I ever grow up I wanna be just like HIM!

:)) hehe, no need to talk about those issues, they are on the same absolute zero level as butterflies' scores last month:)
well, when I really start taking something good I'll enter it.
the photo is bad, no focus (I used my 50mm lens with f8!! but still no focus), boring b&w convertion and many other bad things.
it's fine, at least I do know what I need to improve now.
I'm sitting here at work reading how to create perfect skin in PS and all possible way of b&w convertion. so I hope to learn something and use it in my nude entry.

I think you are a little hard on yourself. That is a quality photo. Easily a high score. |

BTW, I think I just got hit by Mr. Cheerios on my Fill the Frame. It went from approx 5.9 to 5.75 in one vote. I'm happy though 'cause I've already got a favorite, and it is a huge departure for me! So poo on Cheerio boy. |
You have just been kicking butt lately. Way to go. When you get too good for team suck (I know it's just a philosophy) will you still remember us pee-ons?
By the way, this weekend is the annual Frankenmuth Snow Fest. I know it's a ways to travel but it's a great place for taking photographs.

Bob, that festival looks awesome!
My Fill the Frame is dropping like a sack of hammers. Evidently it is not just cheerio boy :-) Went from 5.9 to 5.55 in about four votes. Wow.
Edit: down to 5.48! Crikey!

I need a perspective check on Fill the Frame.
Is it the general concensus that this means that the subject should basically fill the frame and be a focal point in that context as opposed to just zooming in on a chunk of something?

Either is valid as far as I am concerned.
People are way too literal. |

well, at least i'm up over 3 on FTF. the grumpies are still out 'though. i got a very nice comment from bear music which makes things much better.
it's all my fault for using the new rules to the max... ;-P
svetlana, i can see what you mean. it's a nice start to an image, but it needs something. i think the fucus does need to be sharp on the face. i struggled with that on my FTF antry too - and my aperture was 22! a high pass layer before applying the lace might have fixed that. i'm still not sure what you meant by the 'triangle' problems in your commetns below...?

OK, I took a quick peek at the scores. Exit - doing very well. If it holds it'll be a new top row entry. Minimal - 5.5. And Maximal (Fill the Frame) - a resounding 4.5! Gotta love it - I've got a full 2 point spread going. I should check for accompanying odds in Vegas. |

I'm coming Christian! I'll try to comment a lot now.
triangle or whatever it is called, I just call it this:)
I simply wanted my photo not to be like all the photos are: square, but triangle. the arm and the back on the photo make this "triangle". how can I crop my photo so it will have triangle form, with only 3 sides, and not with 4? |

One of the downsides of being an at-home mom is that I have this tendancy to loose track of my days during the week.
I thought *TODAY* was Thursday - so I still had time for last week's challenges.
OOPS.
Though I did talk someone into modelling for me for Nudes !! Now just to figure out lighting, background, and what to do with the kids !!

So what is the average Team Suck vote cast? It seems by and large that we're nice people. |
I have to disagree with your implied claim that "high voting average" means you're a nice person.
I believe in voting correctly, not highly, and being helpful, not syrupy. If your image is worth a 4 in my book, then I think the nice thing is to give you a 4 and tell you why, not give you a 7 and tell you you're a good soul. One of my good friends is always honest with me about my shots. That way, I know she means it when she really likes something.
Ultimately, as has been said before, the voting average is irrelevant - what matters is consistency.
That said, the person in question has made it quite public in the forums that he thinks if your subject occupies 1/10000 less than the full frame, he considers it DNMC. His voting average is incredibly low, but that by itself doesn't mean much beyond his overall voting trend. Bt I think you're right that the low percentage of his comments that have been tagged as helpful are pretty indicative.

Oh, be quiet, you have a 5.5526 average and you're a nice guy.

I didn't say to vote up a bad shot, I even made a comment about how my voting is probably getting slightly harsher.
I'm also more likely to take a pass than vote a 1 or 2, at the very least on the first pass-through.
That's more of an issue of not wanting to vote those scores without a comment and if I want to vote them all or get in my 20%, I won't take the time to do it right then.

I have always wondered what someone like that gets from life. Certainly not a lot of happiness and joy. He has to know that he's certainly alienating himself by dispensing his misery. But maybe that doesn't matter to him......too bad. I choose to have a sunny outlook on life. I've seen too much misery and suffering to go out of my way to look for it or create it.

Raish, ROFLMAO on your incredibly artistic and subtle framing job for Svetlana's photo. That is awesome!!!
Gotta through my .02 in for what it's worth on levyj413's last post. I don't think the implication was that high voting equals quality voting. I think the implication was that someone who votes 3.3 on average doesn't find quality in much of anything - so unless that person leaves a constructive comment, not worth grieving over. My voting average is pretty high - around 5.8 (was 5.6 before Best Of challenge). The reason is that I think there are a lot of quality photos on this site. However, I'm not adverse to giving low scores. Sometimes very low scores.
Obviously, everyone's eye is different, and arguably valid, and all that. But I have to harken back to the old philosophical argument: is everything really relative and equal in value? I think not: without justification, I find little of value in someone who randomly hands out 2's and 3's. While one can argue that there is also little value in someone who randomly hands out 8's and 9's, at least that person is implicitly providing encouragement. Of most value, of course, is the person who thoughtfully looks at each photo and attempts to provide constructive advice aimed at helping the other photog improve. |

It looks to me like they want absolutely nothing around the edges or it is DNMC. Based on that, there are a lot of DNMC's. |

Aside from the DNMC crazies who want 100.0000% filled, look at the results from the last fill the frame challenge. I'd say makin' it BIG and in your face is good enough:
//www.dpchallenge.com/challenge_results.php?CHALLENGE_ID=120
Does everyone know how to find old challenges? It's the best research available for repeats. And don't assume that just because there isn't a Roman numeral after it that it hasn't been done before.
Go to the challenges menu and choose "challenge history." Click the box to show all challenges on one screen and then hit ctrl-F to search within the page for the title.
