My 2 most disappointing scores were both on images that had a story behind them. They are two of my lowest scoring images, but I don't feel that I was robbed. Rather I feel that they would both have benefitted from some explanation - which, of course, flies in the face of the feeling expressed often here that entries should be able to "stand on their own". Both photos mean a lot to me, no matter the score.

This got killed - Didn't even get to a 5 score - Thought just for technical elements it would reach a 5. I still like it as a portrait of mine.

I figured this would do better in the Humor II challenge.

Definitely a travesty. This should have averaged at least a full point higher. |

I'd vote it a 4 max. The background is very distracting and the overall images is flat & uninteresting. The pose is also unflattering, hands are cutoff, I could go on and on.
Since you sound fairly new to photography, take what really was a good score for this photo and keep on shooting. You can only get better. |

Thanks for your feedback, however before you judge how new someone is to photography, check out their profile. Check mine out and have a look at my second highest scoring pic for the look I am giving you. |

Out of all of my photos, this would be the one I feel most robbed on. Though it didnt score badly, I was at least hoping to break a six on it. However the sixes for me are so far away.

I'm sorry but in this case i agree with toohip.
You have better shots.
*edit* That is a stunning photo Hot_pixel, it would have gotten at least a 6 from me.

OK, I was very disappointed at this one's score, felt it really met the challenge and was worth a 6. The commenters about the hands being backwards, when they're not...

I have been involved in photography longer than you have been alive. Your criticism may perfectly valid from your relatively inexperienced point of view, but is not shared by me! |

I'm sorry it sounded like that, but it wasn't my intention. From your post and a quick look at your portfolio, I got that impression.
All I really meant to say, was keep shooting and absorb all the advice, criticism, etc you receive and you will improve.
This is what I try to do in my own photography. |

I got it, but in that case he should not have quoted my post in support of your photo. |

toohip, your photography is superb, despite your short tenure on DPC! Your advice to delta_6 is not bad, but perhaps is inappropriate. |

The shot itself ain't bad IMO. I would have preferred to see the hands, but really it's the post-processing conversion that killed your score. Judging from the color version in your portfolio, you had a lot of image to work with, but lost much of the detail and contrast when you converted it. Compare your entry to this version:
