Here's what brookied gets for beating larus:
Congratulations, Darren, it's really a pathos-loaded picture, too.
Oh, and congratulations for giving the English a spanking in the 6 nations, too :)

Funny about the street photo thing. As levyj413 pointed out (I think), all you have to do is hang around somewhere and snap away in the hopes something'll happen - trouble being it's awful cold this time of year, to be hanging around.

Raish left you a comment. No fair that Darren gets one of those awesome paddles for beating Larus. Oh wait, it is fair. But I want one too! I'd better shoot some stellar photos.
off to grab camera and some Icelandic spring water

Oh dear - I suppose I'd better extend my sympathy then :) I'm English too, but I've never been too upset about going down to the better side. |

dear everyone, may I recommend you a fantastic book I've been reading the last weeks?
it's called "skin" and the author is Lee Varis. I bought it on amazon.
it's about lighting for better skin and retouchin in PS.
absolutely fantastic book! so many great things and advice there.
I just thought maybe it would be interesting for you, too. |

WTF is PS? :)
Though I do need to get some books on lighting. Is it really PS heavy, or mostly lighting? |

mostly PS;) how to even out the skin, wrinkles, skin tone, colors, b&w convertion for bodies etc..
I have many other good ones for lighting:
Norman Philips Low key portrait photography and High Key also by him
Don Blair portrait photography, the art of seeing light
Christopher Grey Master lighting guide
Lee Frost Night and low light photography
and two my faves:
Michelle Perkins Professional portrait lighting
Michael Grecco Lighting and the dramatic portrait
:)
I have more... |

Well I put in my low key shot, I think it is the best I have submitted so far. It should get a 6+ score âBUTâ It will get a low score because of one miner imperfection that I cant do anything about in Basic Rules.
Brookied (Darren), I notice you got on of those red thingies on your photo Big Congrats..

hmm, to go with the b/w or the colour in ice? two very diferent shots - i'm just not sure which. i'm leaning toward the b/w, but neither are particualrly dpc friendly. what a surprise...

Good to see you back, xianart, was wondering how you were doing...
...Svetlana, go knock em dead girl!...
...Deb, where's the third pigeon? Is it on the left-hand guy's knee?
Acronyms is at 4.5 something, as is Trees, while Hate seems to have plateaued at 5.1. Oh well. Wonder how Ice will do...
Oh yeah, who else is in furniture?

See the guy reading the to-do list? To his right (viewer's left), down in the planter behind him, you can see the tail of the third pigeon. :-)
Christian - B&W. I'm a sucker for those.

Xianart - B&W gets my vote.

Just to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, I vote for color, xianart. Usually I prefer b&w myself, but you have a real talent for making color look moody, which I love.
My acronym shot has climbed up to around 5.2 and seems to have plateaued there. It is the most ridiculous photo I've ever taken. I'm getting a lot of comments about how ridiculous it is. Talk about something I should have pulled. Oh well. LOL. |

sheesh ... the better I think I am getting expressing my "art" the more I get punished by DPC voters ... I am starting to think that if I ever get a Blue Ribbon that it will be for something that I was not happy with in an artistic sense.
For one small example I think this ...
... should have gathered at least a 6.0 ... *sigh*
I mean ... if the CIA were interested in these people, they would probably give me extra marks for capturing them totally unaware in such detail ... The processing only made it less detailed but more artistic IMO.
Mind you, it DID get 49 votes from 7 to 10 ...

Like the comments said, I think the texture was what made this score lower... it is a great shot on its own and I think the texture distracts. |

Greetmir if it makes you feel any better, I gave you a nice score for this, but I'm pretty sure I don't represent the voters at large, as my opinion usually differs significantly from theirs. I suspect you got hurt because of the canvas finish, but I think the canvas made it quite interesting. |
