raw truly is fab. i think of it as the digital version of tri-x film - a somehting that can capture pretty well anything, anywhere, with great tonal flexibility.
i use a 1g card,a nd get 96 images to a card in raw. i have a 300g external hard disk, which is getting filled up pretty quickly.
i guess i need to put some of the images on CDs soon... i've also tried to be much more ruthless (ruth, ruth, where are you?) with deletions. if it's not good, loose it.

Talking of RAw file sizes and space, my 250Gb external drive is filling up so i am in the market for a big mutha 1Tb external, 365Stg from the UK
decent price for a few months of storage, I need to remember to clear up the old RAW files i no longer need after a challenge is finished.

I vote for a Team Suck GTG in Ireland! We'll all crash at Darren's house! LOL, just kidding, Brookied, at least about your house part. |

A couple of things... Just want to give a heads up to both quiet_observation and posthumous again for the time they put into Team Suck. Not sure how they find the time. Lately I have had barely enough time to vote let alone comment.
Quick vote checkin, yes I am keeping the Suck scores alive and well:
Free Study 2007-02
Avg Vote: 4.6562
Trees
Avg Vote: 4.7953
Low Key II
Avg Vote: 4.5824
Wahoo, got to love it. I thought more people would get the title for LowKey. My Trees entry just really needs a bit of contrast, and well my Free Study I like but technically the photo is atrocious (compositionally I love it).
I also put entries in for both Furniture and Red. I love my Red entry, though not sure how much it fits the challenge. There are two colors, Red being one of them...
Going to send out my oobie nominations in a second.
Cheers all. |

I'm seriously contemplating a B&W for Red. :)

I'm all for that. We are already planning our second trip to Ireland. The country is absolutely beautiful, especially the west. The Dingle peninsula is incredible. Aran islands are pretty cool too. We were there last spring. |

ROFL!
Here is a couple of shots for you guys taken at an interesting intersection here in a small city in Belgium taken a few seconds apart from each other ...
I thought my fellow suckers would appreciate the irony in these images.

AHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAA! I haven't sucked so bad since I first joined dpc... and it just kills me that my snapshots STILL tend to score higher than my carefully planned photos...glad everyone else seems to be getting good scores though...good thing I just enter challenges for the learning experience or I'd be a wreck...
...Darren, huge congrats on the big news - send us a pic when it's in situ!...
...Julianne, so glad that you're back and escaped jury duty relatively unscathed. Sad that you had to sit through as much of that case as you had to, though....
...Sickdog, hope you're doing better, must go check the aceboard and read up...
...huge round of applause and hugs to quiet_observation and posthumous - where would we be without them?
My busy season is getting underway now, so I may enter only one challenge a week (probably just as well in lieu of recent ultra-sucky scores). But i'll try to stick my head in every so often and get some voting done. |

Looks like something is going wacko at the clubhouse. I tried to read Deb's thread and got this error.
Can't create a new thread (errno 11); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug |

I got the same error message, but I opened the forum under and the went back and opened the thread in question without any trouble. There may be some resistance to the deep link. |

It does seem a bit erratic this afternoon. The French web people all went on vacation? |

The board server is glitchy as all git out this afternoon. Hang in there - they'll probably clear it up before long. |

I hear you, the harder I try for a challenge the worse I do. |

yeah...*sigh*... remember the first pic I got over 5 on, it was only my 3rd or 4th challenge, and I got maybe a dozen shots of a very hastily composed set. But that shot was on my home page for a long time.
BTW Jason, who are the dressage riders you take pictures of? Do you know them personally, or take pics to sell to them later? They're beautifully done (your pics, that is ;-) |

I didn't take the pictures to sell. Actually I have only taken dressage pictures once in my life, and those are them (well I got a couple of hundred of them from the day). My wife rides Dressage though hasn't competed in a couple of years. I went out to take some pictures mostly for the practice. It was at the barn my wife stables at over in Redmond, Washington. They were doing a video shoot for the USDF "On The Levels" Training video for 2007. I just went along since I knew they would be all dressed up. Probably the most well known person there was "Gwen Blake", if you know the sport.
It also gave me an excuse to rent the 70-200 2.8 Nikon lens, which is always fun.
Here is a link if you want to look at more of them. Though there are a lot of throw aways in there. Like I said it was just mostly for my own practice and my first time shooting that sport.

I find the more editing I have to do, the worse I do. I tend to do pretty well in the minimal editing challenges - I'm at around 6.3 in tree - but I'm just not good enough with PS (and lacking the tools of the full program) to compete against the seriously slick PP that some can do. Also, anything where I set up my own lighting system bombs, as I have NO clue about indoor lighting unless it is really, really simple, like my low key shot (sitting at 5.77). |

****THIS WEEK'S RESULTS ONLY ONE DAY LATE***************
BLUE===Butterflies===6.1017
RED====The OOFers====5.909833333
YELLOW=Team Minus====5.848833333
QUAD===The Hoovers===5.675933333
BROWN==Team Novice===5.4847
The Butterflies are back with a solid DPC shot from les and Blue Moon complaining about getting 21st place. But Momentary Lapse of Sucking is no surprise. It goes to Brookied. Tell us like it is, Darren! (Oh, and nobody seemed to notice a very nonsucky score from Melethia, but I'll keep her secret!)

Oh ... I noticed all right! ... 6.712 AND 12th place in Street! Sheesh! Way to go, Deb!
P.S. I gave you a 10 for your Full House :)

Yikes, my FS score has fallen like a rock, from 6.0 to 5.5 in one afternoon. I turned the scores off. I hate watching that free fall.
And yes, I did notice Deb's spectacular performance in street. Way to go! |
