Good news is practice makes us all better photographers. Plus a lot of the people here on DPC have professional studios and/or lighting.

Unfortunately, I was out of town for the past week, so I don't have any entries in (besides Free Study). I am been pretty stressed with work lately, so I didn't bother to bring my camera. Right now I have no score to watch. I guess that will give me some time for comments.

Cheers all!

I like my pictures and do know that I have alot to learn to be really good, but do I have to lose my individuality to get there? My husband read this and said " a little bitter are we" Maybe so, or maybe just a bad day who knows. Or just maybe a rant and tomorrow will be another day.

I'm in with an entry specifically designed to compete for an OOBIE.

You better not be messin' with my chances!........8>)

Sub-5 after 12 votes here, and scores will be off 'til maybe tomorrow or the next day. I spent ALL NIGHT trying to fix something, but in the end decided it wouldn't make that much difference. It's something voters will speed past no matter what, which is fine.

(And thanks to Tim for his patience in trying to teach me how to use editing tools. I really am a Photoshop klutz.)

Okay, my wonderful teammates.....here's the Time entry that I cannot figure why it came in at over 1.2 less than what my Grain entry is looking like it'll do at the end.

What's wrong with this picture? (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

My scores started in the 3s and are now up to 5. It's early yet, so don't fret too much.

I have only seen a few entries that were of objects rathar than people. One of them was very touching. I have seen a few animals too. I vote on the entry regardless of the subject.

Best wishes! I hope you wake up to a higher score.

It probably won't last, but for now, it's feeling good! (and it's the right size)

Nothing "particularly" wrong with the photo. You even got a 5.4793 and scored better than 50%... so...

Anyhow, what probably took you down on "votes" was the use of a non-standard crop format and the fact that "time" really isn't that well portrayed for the challenge. Plus you have that wide angle, falling over distortion that doesn't lend well to architecture. Generally you need true lines with architecture.

Other than that, the photo is great. A very nicely exposed photograph.

Thanks, guy!

You think the funky crop and wide angle is not well received?

I hadn't thought about that.

That may have been something that hurt me in the last Free Study, too.

I like that effect, but maybe I'm different and that isn't good in challenges.

You don't think the clock speaks of time? Too literal?

I liked the luminosity......my main reason for shooting it in the first place.

Actually, although I hadn't seen before, I have to admit that the effect (of the wide angle?) of the building tilting, kind of bothers me. And I agree with an earlier comment about the frame - I don't really care for it. But I love the way the clock shines into the night. It says "time" to me. And it says something about time to me.

I *LOVE* "Flowers are Red." I used to quote it to my wife, who was a 2nd grade teacher, when she'd start griping about some kid not conforming. :)

"I don't want to be like everyone else" is great for you, and by all means, explore whatever you like. That certainly fits with the Team Suck attitude!

Just be prepared to get low scores because that represents the average of everyone's opinion. Focus instead on the group that you connect with and you'll be fine.

So close! My TIME photo was so close to knocking one of my cat shots down to the right on my front page! As it is though, can't complain. My average mark is now over 5 for the first time ever. :)

Nothing in right now, hopefully next week.

Go Team Suckers - it's all good! David - didn't knock down a cat (which is good, cats don't like that) but it is a new entry on your top row. Great score in Color Portrait, Lea, and nice new 2nd place on your top row, too, Peter.

Great looking thumbnails from Time and Circle are now posted.

Portrait is sucking nicely along at 4.83. Definitely not my strong suit - am looking forward to learning from the stronger shots!
Edit to add: Has jumped up to 5.1 - hope it will stay above the mark.

Yes, I'm quite pleased that it's gone in above the lemon. Can't wait to shove that one off the front page.

Now I'm waiting until wednesday to decide what challenge to enter next. Nothing in the current batch.

Bah! I have no update button :(
Too hectic this week. No chance to shoot anything! I think I'll try for the cellphone challenge.
I know my two commenters for my circles entry both gave me 1's since the average vote for commenters was 1.

the sprog got his first ever stitch today. poor little guy - thumped his head into the corner of a wall, and stopped crying so quikly i didn't realise he was bleeding until 10 minutes later. so, to the doc, and a quick stitch to hold the worst cut closed. luckily, as it was gaping so nicely, they just squirted the local straight in to the wound - no needles for for the painkiller at all. the only thing that really freaked him out was the tugging when the nurse pulled the knot tight.

cadbury's mini eggs were the next order of the day. and then he wanted to go to school after all. what a trouper!

people seem to be liking my portrait quite a bit more than my circle, which was mostly disliked. that makes my rather reluctant model feel slightly better...

Left you a detailed comment, Kelli.

Congrats to mist for your new top-row score and bringing your average over 5, and congrats to raish for your new top-row score!

I'm hoping to add one of my own in color portrait, but then, I've been hoping to do so for the past few challenges!

So far, so good, though. :)

Where are you going to impress people with your stitches if you don't go to school? Way to go, junior headbanger :)

Don't read too much into it, I was just saying why voters might not have scored it high. You know how they are, they want to see a clock with wings or lighting striking a tower. They love dramatic photos often on the verge of surreal. It's a good photo and a decent score. Cheers.

Hi all

I'm in Colour Portrait II but seriously thinking of withdrawing the shot from competition. How do you do that, ask the SC to remove it?

Otherwise nothing new here...

Svetlana, keep chomping down the painkillers and sleeping...Kashi and Emerkaza, great to hear you've both got pro shoots lined up...and Xianart, big hug to the little sprog!

Might shoot for Langdon, have to go figure out what he likes though!
03/19/2007 11:40:46 AM · #2125
Susan, if you really want to pull a shot, you can send a note to the SC (under Help, I think it is) and it counts as a DQ. My advice would be to let it ride if you can. Turn off scores and ignore it if it's bothering you.
