Gotcha both, Kelli and Svetlana. Svetlana, I may try your suggestions with my strange globe picture - I, too, really like the geometry and the background wall. Never thought of it floating - interesting idea!

I think I'm taking a hammering on my Pop picture, but I have to thank Raish for his comment - my one and only so far. Thanks, Raish! And even though I'm getting hammered in Pop (doing well in Birthday), I got the nicest comments just sort of out of the blue today on various things, that I don't mind at all.

And it's a nice day. I was going to go ride but I've still got a sore throat (from last week, even) and I really need to put together furniture I bought yesterday at Ikea. By the way, it is entirely possible for a 110 pound female to get a 100 pound box not only into the truck, but out of the truck and into the house. Granted, it's still sitting right inside the front door, but it's in the house!

Happy shooting, viewing, voting, and commenting!

hehe:) how much is it, 100 pounds btw? sounds very heavy!
you bought it at Ikea!!! :) when we are travellin with my DH and do not see Ikea or HM boutiques in other cities we get really worried:)
they both have the same concept: design cheap and for everyone. and this is what sells most. I think it's like microstock sites: quality for almost nothing. do you think there will be place for "fine art" (=something exclusive) in the future?

Deb, I've been thinking about the globe photo, maybe just to darken that "table"? it would give that floating feeling, too.
:)
ok, happy hopping on one leg to me! and happy spring to everyone!

Jack, Julianne, and Maxine: thanks for the donation!

Melethia: try aiming for the feet or something slightly behind the head. That way you get the part in focus in front of the focal point AND the part behind the focal point. But really, a razor-thin DOF is going to yield a razor-thin area in focus.

Svetlana and Kelli: I'm on JPG, too. :) I've submitted for the past three issues without luck so far, even when I had a large number of "yeah" votes. Shrug. I voted for yours, although Svetlana, you're hardly "beauty redefined." More like "standard definition of beauty." :)

Svetlana - 100 pounds is about 44 kilos. :-)

Jeffrey, voted for you!

hhmmm, "standard definition"... so boring:) I'll work on it ;)

Deb, :) so I am also 47 kilos:) well, I prefer saying 47 kilos rather than 110 pounds... 110 sounds huge anyway!!

<--------- weighs 100 kilos. Or almost 16 stone, for you Brits and Irish.

If I were solid gold, I'd be worth a lot more. :)

I'd give just about anything to weigh 110 lbs. I think the last time I did, I was likely about 10 years old. *sigh*

Kilos sound nicer, but it's still not so fun to say I weigh 84 kilos.

Personally I prefer to say I weigh just over 13 stone.

;P to Jeffrey:)

maybe you can tell me, d200, EOS 5D or wait until I have enough for d2xs? I don't really need d2xs, do I? is it because of spring I am in an upgrading mood all the time? :)

As I build my argument for buying a DSLR, I'm considering various features. I think all of the ones you mentioned will take fantastic, high-quality pics. They'll also all take crap, by the way. ;)

Here's what I'm looking for. So far, the D200 looks most likely for me.
- good low-light performance
- rapid-fire burst mode (e.g., D200 is 5 frames per second)
- wide selection of lenses available
- Nikon is winning so far because of one lens: the 18-200 VR DX
- ability to control remote flashes wirelessly, in case I ever buy any
- flexible timer (I regularly change the settings on my current camera to meet my needs at the moment)
- remote (preferably wireless)
- SD memory cards, since I already have 4 GB of those
- as low cost as possible

From what I've read, an okay body and wonderful lenses is a better combo than the other way around.

These are good cameras but the lens that you buy might be even more critical. If you plan to stay within the Nikon group of cameras, you might buy a topnotch lens now that works on your D50. Make sure that the lens would work on a d200 and a d2x. Your D50 could become a backup camera.

Jeff I like your thinking on what to buy. I want to ugrade also, The only reason I'm still looking at the Canon's is I have lenses from my AE1 that will fit. Canon was smart in making all their lens interchangeable with their new stuff.

I think that's an excellent reason to stick with Canon. Despite all the heavy breathing among diehard fans of one brand or another, I think they're probably all very, very good. If you have a stock of Canon lenses, I'd just stick with Canon.

I'm lucky enough to be starting fresh. And that 18-200mm zoom VR lens is like magic. The biggest thing holding me back is camera size - I just LOVE how compact the S2 IS is. Another thing is weight. So being able to have one lens quasi-permanently mounted, so it's just one thing to carry, is really attractive. Seems like that lens, plus maybe a 50mm and a macro would do me for a long time.

Check the stats on the Nikon you're looking at - I seem to recall one or two of 'em (maybe all?) don't go below 200 ISO, which I think is kinda odd.

Deb, thanks for the great comment on my Pop shot..yeah I guess it is kinda scary...;-)

Welcome to the jungle, Jackal! As you can see we're a merciless collection of bad-tempered trolls and Cheerio-pee-ers, so don't say you weren't warned...bwaahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!!

Jeffrey, good luck on your trek, my heart goes out to your wife.

Hopalong, be careful with that leg! Eat lots of brownies, they'll slow you down!!! (Are you eating them with the pistachio icecream?)

Oh yeah, I'm a hulking 10 stone 3. Get yer calculators out! :-)

Correct. The D200 and D2x do 100 ISO though. Not sure about D80.

If you can stand to wait till Christmas then there'll probably be a D3x etc and the 2s will be knocked out at reduced prices by people trying to finance their upgrades.

The stepson has a D2x and he says he nearly always uses the 50mm 1.4 lens. Choice of lense is mostly down to individual use, I think.

When I grow up I'm getting a gigapixel phone camera with a liquid lense filled with an organic self-reproducing combination of alcohol and peyote. I'll have to drink it to get the focus right and every time it takes a decent picture it rings round and tells everyone.

But Svetlana, if I tell you to break a leg, will you try not to take it literally?

ETA, irrelevantly, I is 110 kilos, heh.

Same for my Pentax *ist DL, 200 ISO is the slowest setting.

Hi everyone, thanks for the warning snaffles, lol.
