Wow! Two teams AVERAGED over 6? Amazing. :)
On a different topic, it seems I'm now a magnet for damsels in distress. I went out to shoot DC by night for the first time since Jeanne's mishap in February. And I wound up helping a woman fix her flat tire! LOL.
But this time, I still got some very nice shots. Not sure if there are any I'll enter, but if I don't get out again, I definitely will.

The indefatigable Mary quiet_observation renews the second post one page one of this thread, weekly. The pictures are there now.
Guess this link is superfluous.
Major congrats on your soaring successes of late.

I was guilty of living and working in the Brighton area for a year or so. Rows of yellow 'holiday chalets' on piers in the marina bear witness to this. Check out the Royal Pavilion and, of course, the pier. Give yourself time to have a look at the train station as well. If you're a good boy and do all these things, then you can treat yourself to a copy of Oh! What a Lovely War, a musical treatise on WWI which is Richard Attenborough's debut as a director, contains a never-to-be equalled array of the great actors of the time (Gielgud, Olivier, Redgrave, Richardson and on and on) and was filmed entirely on location in Brighton.
The likes of Cuckmerehaven, beachy head
and Ditchling Beacon are within spitting distance, but you'll want someone local to take you. Find marbo? |

I really appreciate the comments, Darren, and I agree that my spin shot was pretty much DPC-unfriendly (though I'd argue that it did indeed meet the challenge!). I have, as you've suggested, attempted "DPC friendly" but haven't quite figured it out yet. These two shots were attempts:
For Fruits and Vegetables. Even light (cloudy day, outside) simple composition, simple plain background.
For Acronyms - I picked a fairly well-known acronym (at least to Americans, who do comprise the majority of the voting population), again used a simple non-interfering background, good light (or so I though) good focus, simple presentation.
The first one just barely broke 6.0 and the second one finished at 53% with a mid 5 score (but made for an awesome totebag). My question is - if I really do want to attempt DPC friendly, what am I doing wrong when I try?
By the way, I wouldn't have considered your Still shot as particularly DPC friendly - way too much in it, too many competing elements, and yet it scored very well, and is indeed an excellent picture. This just leaves me even more confused. :-) |

OK first things i have left a comment on all shots on page one ;-)
Melethia,
I think the reason my Still shot did well was due to the volume of space and nothing moving at all. Also with B&W i think i have now become semi descent at the conversion which helps. My previous efforts were to open the Hue/Saturation tool and remvoe the colour and that was it????
Now i have a little few stpes and the result is one hundred times better.
For me a DPC freindly entry should be very clean, very easy to identify with on the challenge terms, a near technically perfect shot.
I have a shot in contre Jour that is doing about 6.3, Good enough score but one of the comment told me it was not true contre jour, i think it is but there in is the slight difference between an 8 score and a 4.
My shot in here also have lens flare which some see as a big no no.
I think it really is a case of having a look through past challenges and studying the top 10 shots, then adapt these to fit your own style. I have no fear with your talent you will crack DPC but remember its not the be all and end all.
Look at my history, I got a fluke ribbon when i started, then was a near 2 years with crappy scores. then i took a break come back with a new view and bang my socres have rocketed. Why more DPc friendly but i also know how to better use my equipment.
BTW your Pepper shot is so cool, i would have gone with that myself.

Just wanted to share this I think it's funny. This is my granddaughter Lela, who is 13 months now. She just sat there and let us stick the Cheerios to her face. Probably only funny to Grandma!
Thanks for the comments Darren.

I think she knows you're being goofy - look at that expression! :)
But boy, did you nail the focus - so nice and sharp.

I have a thought on that. It *is* a deserted street in the wee hours, when you look at it, your frame of mind is that. The Title is "In the still of the night", a pretty typical expression, phrase, a statement that is a part of the lexicon that IMO is suggestive.
The reason that I am going with this is that I spent a bunch of time coming up with a title for my Still entry, and what I went for was suggestion that tied in with the shot......hence, "Not even a whisper of a breeze.....", with a bare tree that you can see *no* movement in the tiny leafless branches.
I'd like Darren's feedback as to his title, but I think that sometimes a title can be worth a part of the score if well done.
I think it may have helped my truck in the theme of the Procrastination challenge, but I don't think it had any effect on the bridge in my Image Grain shot.
Thoughts?

*scratching my head* can't figure out how Team Minus still manages to score in the high 5s with ME on their team...
Sucking along around 4 in both Fitness and Anachronisnm. Shot for Chains, but a technical problem with camera - the time/date function keeps effing up - means I have to re-enter that info each time I switch it on. Dang camera.
Have fun in London Jayson! |

Only the top 3 scorers are included in the calculation. For example, OOF's score = (6.9368 + 6.3763 + 5.7237)/3 = 6.34560.

So out of three challenges, the Hoovers didn't have three entries? Shame on us.

Oh goody, in that case I'm an automatic discard like 98% of the time, lol! So I'm free to suck as bad as I want, woohoo! :-)
I think I have a really cool shot for Chains, but haven't seen it on computer yet. I also took a pic of an incredibly leggy young horse I'm working with, whose body is also so thin and skinny that he looks just like a kid's drawing of a horse. I'll probably put it on my portfolio page tomorrow.
Bye for now all, time to do some voting!

Yep! I have very little inclination to enter challenges at the moment. I need some motivation, even my contre jour entry is doing crap! Hopefully, we will have a Macro or insect challenge soon. Although I must admit, all I have entered these past three months have been tatty shots taken with the Pentax kit lens...not that it is a bad lens, it's just that I haven't had the time to find a good location for challenges.
That's the end of the excuses, I will try harder in the future, Miss! |

You need to have at least 3 people with at least one entry during the week.
Yes, I'm usually in the trash heap but that's OK-at least I'm somewhere.
