Hi all
Puckzzz, looking forward to your comment...and Mark-A, if you've already registered a score of over 6 on your first ever challenge, you have no worries at all! And the scrubber will help eliminate a few troll scores. So take that, trolls! |

I'm voting and commenting now. I must say this tho:
I don't mean to offend anyone when I give harsh comments. It's just my opinion and do whatever you want with it :-)
I'm also trying to be as constructive as I can be.

Thought I had a good idea on this one and was supported by the 4 comments, so far, but went from a 5.6 to a 5.3.
I guess I'm not surprised, but I am a little disappointed. If I ever get into 6 territory, I'll probably have a heart attack anyway, so what the heck. I'll be interested to see what wins this one... crazy challenge. |

That's the way to do it! After all, there's generally something good to say about a shot. |

I have to agree, in 99% of my comments I have tried to be constructive even when being harsh on an image, I just say what I feel as it is working two ways then, I am learning from what I feel are shortfalls in other peoples images and hopefully they get to think about their image from another perspective.
On another note I am well happy with the way todays votes have gone in comparison to yesterdays:

Heh yes I am very happy with the way it is going at the moment as I really didn't know what to expect and having watched a few challenges and also having been told this is a hard place to please (or the people in it at least) I was wondering how things would turn out, but at the end of the day I am here to learn and the only way to do so is to take the criticism and use it to improve my skills - and as I posted above another way I feel I can achieve this is to comment on other peoples pictures as I score them.
Can someone explain to me what the scrubber does and how it works please? |

Welcome Mark. What the so called scrubber does is drop certain votes if the voter votes all the same score across the board, like gives out all 4's. It will also drop scores if the voter hasn't voted on at least 20% of the photos in a challenge. There might be some other instances it's coded for. Perhaps other folks might fill us in on that. |

Think you pretty much got it all, Techo.
Mark-A, imho, you can either shoot stuff that will a) please the dpc crowd and thus get rewarded with a good score; b) shoot stuff to please yourself, and risk getting a lower score cause it's not what most dpcers like or want to see (this is my default setting); or c) please both, and reap the rewards of getting a high score or winning on your terms! And like I said, if you're already over 6 in your first ever challenge, at a guess I'd say you've likely managed to pull off c). This time around, anyway! :-) |

Thanks both of you.
With regards taking pictures I guess I would fall in to category B because I will come up with an idea for a challenge that will please me and hopefully others too, I certainly wouldn't want to shoot in a way that I would not do normally just to score well, I guess this could still improve skill sets but the learning curve would be limited IMO, I'd rather get constructive criticism on the type of shots I enjoy taking at least then I can use it to better my every day photography. Obviously if B leads to C then it will be smiles all round hehe
It's a shame that some people vote so poorly, when you see some of the amazing pictures posted that have average scores of 7+ and 1 or 2 people see fit to give it a 1 when the next lowest score is around 5 (it's a shame that scores below 3 do not show the voters name and require a comment at least that might make the trolls think twice), okay if a picture really is bad then low vote it - I have already done so myself - but that's a different thing entirely.
