So do we rate for good photography or decoration tackiness?

You mean it's not supposed to be a tacky photo of a lovely decoration ...? |

Both, After all it is a photography contest too,
I know, just that some of the tackiest decs aren't the best photos, while some of the best photos aren't the tackiest decs, hence the head-scratch
If push comes to shove, think I'll go with the title and vote for the best fit (i.e. cheesiest/tackiest dec rather than tech ability) for this challenge. |

That's just the problem, I'd go with the better picture myself, that and originality. |

I noticed that a lot of these photos are really bad compared to the other challenges. Even in situations where people couldn't do much to make the photo great, they could have at least done a little better. A lot of photos are fuzzy, for example. One thing I noticed is that a lot of photos are taken too far away. Getting up close and personal with your subject can often improve composition, getting rid of clutter. There are a handful of pretty good photos of tacky decoration though, which proves that it can be done.
A famous war photographer, Robert Capa, once said: "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." |

This one isn't about technical quality for me at all. It's about the challenge. I'm overlooking some of the technical issues and going straight for the tackiness.

I'm not surprised. Most people are understandably reluctant to ask someone if they can get a close-up shot for a "Tacky Decoration" challenge! |

I'm also trying hard to remember that what one person finds tacky another might find divine. Tackiness is in the eye of the beholder so I'm voting on quality of the photo and how much interest it holds in me. |

Yes, I'm surprised at the number of out of focus shots submitted- both from a distance and up close. Just because it's tacky doesn't mean it can be blurry and score well.

The photo should be a good picture but what if the photo really isn't tacky? It's a little confusing for me! |

**sigh**..... apparently others don't see mine as being as tacky as I do. 4.500, 56 votes, one comment. Ah well.

All in all this was a difficult challenge for me. Being new to the 'community' I have much to learn. Comments on this thread reflect some of my feelings, regarding 'What is tacky?' Some of the subject matter & some of the photography was tacky IMHO. On the other hand some of the photography was quite good and I didn't find the subject matter tacky. I wondered if some of the tacky subject matter was 'enhanced' by tacky photography in keeping with the theme. To make matters worse I missed the deadline for submission in what was to be my first Challenge, due in part struggling with the above mentioned dilemma... I felt my subject matter was tacky and I certainly had a range of photos from poor quality to some that would show better with some advances AP7 work... should you care to comment I would be appreciative.
