You have critiqued 3 out of the 3 photographs you have selected in the past two weeks.Your last critique was on July 19 2009.
Since your first critique on April 22 2009, you have critiqued 52 out of the 53 photographs you have selected.
So that would be what ummm 48 more images than Ecce and about 500 images less than the reigning Queen *whipcracking sfx* C'mon, people! What else are we here for! |

lol Susan, I do promise to do better and critique all images served this time rather than refrain from critiquing an image I don't like ;) |

WOW, this is actually hard work. However, I do think it is probably helping me more than the person I'm giving the critiques for.
We that give the critique are mainly untrained so I'd be happy if anybody wants to take a look at my last few critiques to hopefully let me know that I'm on the right track? I started by just writing but think by breaking things down to certain areas I'm more focussed?
Any critique on my critiques would be well received :)

Criticizing critics? Why not start another club then!? I think any in depth comment could only help, there is no right or wrong in art. |

oooh, another club! we need more clubs!
Seriously whilst I understand that any in depth comment is normally good we as individuals represent the 'critique club' yet to my knowledge we are not monitored. As individual commenters we are free to comment as we please, should we be stating in our critique that its an individual comment rather than a club critique?
This stat confuses me...
14,013 photographs have been critiqued (16,212 attempted) out of the 59,421 requested since the club's inception.
Is there a time limit before an uncritiqued image leaves the queue?

Yes. I believe they stay in the queue for a week. Until the next rollover, then a new queue. |

I think the interesting part is "16,212 attempted". Of the couple dozen I've done I've been lucky enough to draw a photo I could find something to say...guess that's not been the case for everyone? Or maybe an image is selected and then for some reason the Critique Club member didn't get around to finishing it? |

I joined critique club a few weeks ago, but havent been very consistent with it. At first, I promised myself that I would do a few every week. I gotta live up to that still.
One thing that bugs me though, is that half the comments i have left as critique club do not get marked as helpful. I know this is an issue that comes up in the forums a lot, but you'd think that if a person asks for feedback, you give a critique that takes time to give, and they give no recognition.
Oh well.... c'est la vie. |

That bugs me, too. Couple of things - after you leave a critique club comment, send a PM to the recipient to let them know they have one - some may simply not notice. Another thing - many may be "newbies" and simply check every box when submitting, not knowing what they're doing per se. The PM might help there as well. |

I think all critics should leave a note in PM after a critique, reminding photographer that if they don't check the box, at least PM back why it wasn't helpful. I usually check the boxes often, even if Im aware of the flaws...always good for 2nd opinion. Also, they should allow members to pick which photo to critique. |

Wow this is the most activity in this thread for ages!
I was on a roll for a while there, but recently and again in part due to the fact that I noticed hardly any had been marked helpful, I have lost my enthusiasm.
You have critiqued 4 out of the 6 photographs you have selected in the past two weeks.Your last critique was on July 20 2009.
Since your first critique on December 8 2008, you have critiqued 90 out of the 119 photographs you have selected.
There are 60 images waiting critique. Anyone up for the challenge of clearing the queue by Sunday's rollover?

I don't agree with the ability to choose. What if the person wants a critique because they hardly got any comments in the first place? Then one would assume that critique club members are less likely to choose it for critique as well. Bad idea.
I always send notices when I complete one, but even so... some still aren't marked. I started out pretty well when I first joined but I slowed because it's depressing that requested advice is deemed unuseful :/
I'll try and knock out some more this week though. |

I'd welcome a critique and be grateful for it. I'm very new and have a desire to learn. |

In regards to requesting a critique from a Critique Club member, there is a box you can check when your image is submitted for a challenge just below it.
Also, while your photo is in voting, there is a small box below it that you can select that will also add it to the queue for us. (I don't have a photo in a challenge currently so can't show you that one, sorry).
Keep in mind that how the Critique Club works is your image is put up with all the others in a random queue for us to randomly select. This queue is cleared after a week, so you won't necessarily get chosen every time because requests tend to exceed how many critiques we can provide.
If, after the challenge has ended, you want feedback, you can also ask for comments in the individual photo section or if you have questions about results, the challenge results section.

Thanks for that. I checked the box on Green Explosion when I entered the 'From the ground up' challenge.
I'll wait and see if I'm one of the lucky ones or not! :-)

I think that challenge has probably been cleared from the queue already. It's likely flowers and street/geology that are up for critique now. Typically if you haven't received a critique within a week of the challenge ending, then you were not one of the "lucky" ones. Keep trying though, the more people doing critiques on a regular basis, the more likely you are to receive one!

I'm curious about the discrepancy - not trying to give you a hard time, but I wonder about this (noted in an earlier post as well) - why do you have 29 more photos selected than critiqued? |

You can give me a hard time that's fine, because it's nothing to do with a lack of willingness.
Honestly, it's because I often don't get them finished, I try to get some done on Tuesday knowing rollover is on a Wednesday morning for me. If I select one and then something crops up at work, I have to abandon it unfinished. Quite often I go back to finish it later, and it has gone from my queue. They don't stay after you select them for an indefinite time. If you select one say today, don't get to it until tomorrow, chances are it's already disappeared from your screen, even if there isn't a rollover. So sometimes you don't get chance to go back and finish what you thought you had started. Rarely has it been because I haven't got anything to say.
Hope that satisfies your curiosity.

Yeah, the numbers in the earlier post surprised me (seemed high). I can see starting one and then rollover comes and wipes it out - that makes sense. If what you point out about selecting an image, then leaving it for a day or two, and then it gets wiped out (without a rollover), then something in the system doesn't seem right. |
