Tolerably frosty morning and cloudless days. Yesterday morning my windscreen was iced up, but if I park the car front in towards the building it stays clear of ice. But generally it doesn't seem as cold for this time of year than two or three years ago.

Aside from the darkness, the dark grey skies do not really lend themselves to photography. But by Feb, when we get our light back and hopefully some snow, things will be better.

Sun rises 9:27 and sets 15:06. Length of day is 5 h 39 min.

Recent weather observation: 8 Dec 2009 7:40 local time
Temperature 0.9 °C, humidity 98%, dew point 0.6 °C,

Been hovering around -30C since Friday, which we had a major blizzard and serious whiteouts because of it along with more than 250 accidents that day :S

I flew up to Washington a couple of weeks ago ...

Crater Lake:
Darn, I thought this was Mt. St. Helens, but the timing seems wrong for that location ... can anyone positively ID this mountain?

Just took this out of my office window 10 minutes ago with my brand new Leica :D )(okay - I just had to brag!). We had about 2 feet of snow but mild weather and rain the past 3 days has melted most of it.

What's the times between the shots? Are you looking East, West?

Sitting here in the UK, you would be hard pressed to tell that it is not summer - it is wet, cold and grey. Here are some from New England last year though. Comments welcome as they never really saw the light of day...

That was my first thought, but then went to Rainier, Jefferson, and even ended up down at Shasta in Cali. It's amazing how different one mountain can look just depending on the angle. I do agree though that it's Mount Hood. If we're right there's some happy skiers under that cloud.

Edit: Well, maybe not at the time of the photo, looks pretty dry.

Thanks everyone! Turns out this was about 12 minutes (flight time) south of the Crater Lake photo, so it must be Mt. Hood ... I have pictures of Shasta as well, but I was surer of that location because it's right at the end of California's central valley. I knew Mt. Hood was a ski destination -- I was wondering where the runs were; this is basically the West face of the mountain.

St. Helens, Jefferson and Rainier must have been hidden under the cloud cover or on the other side of the plane, though I have earlier pictures of the latter two ... :-(

Here's a closer-up view showing the multiple cones at the summit.
