I'd also suggest Canon's i960 (or the i9900 if you need that size print). I print glossies for all my models and while these aren't archival quality they will last for over 10 years and by that time they should have updated their portfolios anyway, right? ;)

I took my book into the local Wolf camera to talk with some guys that shoot portraits and weddings locally and they wondered where I'd had my stuff printed. They were pretty impressed with the quality of the prints.

For shots I want blown up larger than 8x10 I use DPCPrints. Its fast, inexpensive and the quality is impeccable.

I would avoid anything printer made by HP. The prints from an HP print look great but we have had nothing but problems with the HP printers that we have bought. The biggest problem is the paper handling the second biggest problem is that they break down. At this point I simply will not buy anything made buy HP. We also had a lot of problem with prints made from an HP printer fading, since going to the Canon we have not seen this problem.
