I wonder if a sepia toned shot would get pounded on the score in the black and white challenge... I don't guess I should even try that.. lol

Hmm... I think it would have been better if the challenge was 2 tone. Even let people have fun with Red & Black or Blue & Black.
Maybe next time.

It is interesting that the Sony DSC 707 doesn't have B&W only Sepia. I wonder why that is?

I was disapointed to see that the wording of the challenge pretty much insists on the image being black and white thus not allowing pictures of black and white things in a colour environment |

BTW I would DEFinatly score any photo that uses Sepia Tone as a substitute for B&W a ONE! |

Just a reminder -- this is not a two-tone challenge, it's a black and white challenge. From the challenge wording: "as long as the final result is in black and white". There's really not room for interpretation there.

I'm anticipating lots of really bad conversions (grey & grey instead of black & white), but probably decent images underneath since people can shoot what they like.

i''ve a free (read: allegedly illegal) copy of photoshop 6 available to whoever wants to bother downloading it at about 10 k/s.
..maybe lang could fire up his vb 6 skills and write us a simple image manipulation tool for stuff like that.

I can''t believe we''re arguing about what black and white is.

I think I have that too, along with photoshop 7, I don't really know all the stuff I've downloaded. Haven't even installed them though, I finally figured out an effective way to crop with paintshop pro 6.

lots of the free tools support this sort of thing too.
Paint Shop Pro has cheap versions/ free evaluations. Tools like 'the gimp' do this for free as well.
Windows & Linux versions available too

Are there any free programs that have a channel mixer for Mac OS 9? How long would it take to download a trial version of Photoshop 6 on a 56 K modem? Would channel mixing make any difference (as opposed to curves/desaturate) if your image is mostly black and white to begin with?
