Whenever I call my brother a Trekkie he gets all pissed off and needs to explain the difference between "Trekkies" and "Trekkers".

Well, that's why I used the word "Trekkers". Honestly, no difference to me. I do have a running disagreement with my daughter about the distinction between "geek" and "nerd".

Ditto! "Geek" is a badge of honor, "nerd" is a pejorative.

I met Jeri Ryan several years ago at an autograph signing at one of the Star Trek conventions in Pasadena. I admired how responsibly she treated her fans and she made sure everyone had a signed autograph before she left. Her graciousness impressed me far above any of her other assets that are so admired by her male fans.
