Good to see some reviews by folks who have attended. I'm signed up for April 15, Madison, WI. |

Dang! Didn't even post MY experience!
I also really enjoyed their presentation. They did it at one of the HUGE theaters at the LA Convention Center, and they had a whole roadie crew to help them set their shots. Man, if I had a roadie crew, lighting would be SO easy.
It was very entertaining, and they gave out a ton of stuff. I ended up sitting on the floor dead center at the back. Had a fabulous view and was picked for a question, so being at the back was NOT a problem. It was very interesting to see where/how they used their flashes to create interesting effects - even lighting a 10,000 sf room with 8 flashes. What I took away is that I need to learn to use the flash menus if I'm going to have any success with them at all.
ETA
Based on your pictures, Derek, the LA venue was easily 3 times larger.

Yeah, here they used a couple ballrooms at the Colorado Convention Center downtown, which was nice, since it's right across the street from the 16th street mall so LOTS of awesome food choices without having to walk far/worry of parking. At one point Hobby or Mcnally made reference to there being about 300 people I think.
And as far as the big crew- somebody referenced that and asked what the average person without 10 VAL's would do? Response was: put it there yourself with a cheap lightstand. ;) |

Went to the one in Portland. They put on an exciting show. Well organized. It's nice to see some one in person demonstrating what we've read, reinforces the learning process. The TTL & manual combo was very interesting. They don't use light meters. I picked up some tips on the controls of the flash units. What I got out of it the most was there is no right way to set the flashes, it's more trial & error outdoors but there is a base line to start with. It was well worth the money, had a great time. |

Did any of you get the new Strobist DVD's... Lighting in Layers? I finally just got mine in the mail (minutes ago) but am yet to watch it... I'll give my impressions in a separate thread once I have, just curious if any of you had purchased it as well. |

Yep have it. I've only watched the 1st DVD and just browsed the others. Same as you, have yet to watch the whole thing. I'm still absorbing all the info from his first Strobist DVD and flash bus tour. |
