LOL, I registered 2 weeks after this thread ended in 2002. :)
Showed a photo on DPReview and someone said I should enter it here in a challenge.

I had purchased a Nikon 995 in December of 2001, and wanted to find a way to improve my photography. I searched for photography competition sites, and DPC came up. I registered, and never looked back. When we went to the paid/unpaid model at the end of 2002, I plunked my $25 USD down immediately. |

When researching for my KM A200, imaging-resource.com had some links about contests.

A friend from my small group turned me onto this place. Since then I have entered 80+ challenges and he has never entered one. Dont even think he ever really hung out here.

I was on another site (photopoints.com) but I didn't find I was learning a lot from it. The comments tended to be fluff "nice picture", "good" "okay" etc. which didn't help me learn anything. I went to google and hunted around to find a good site to help me learn. I think I was actually looking for photo projects etc and I found this site. I would have put down my $25 immediately except it wasn't quite payday yet. Otherwise it would have been the same day I saw the site.
Just to swell all your ego's, the comments on this site are far more helpful than on other photo site's and the competition in the challenges is fierce. If you get a result above 7 you've created something pretty darn good. On photopoints, photos are rated out of 5 but I've never seen anyone get anything lower than 3 or 4. I really appreciate the honest and open feedback on this site.

he's lying... he was looking over my shoulder when i checked my scores. i tried to hide it from him, i swear!... it's not my fault!!
;)
as to how i got here, i have not recolection of that event, senator...
probably from the dpreview.com d70 forum, but i can't be sure. i do know that i was a registered member for nearly a year before i actually got involved... getting a 6.5 w/ my 4th entry is probably what finally got me hooked...

My brother Jacko kicked me in the ass and told me about it. Thanks to him, I'm about $7000 poorer ;) |

I was taking my first digital photo class and had taken a shot of a pool break with a slow shutterspeed so it had alittle trail. A guy in the class said it reminded him of this shot he saw on this site. This one , I have tried using the exact same setting as wingy and still can't get the same long trails! I entered once back then and then did nothing until this january, now my girlfriend accepts that when we come home from a night out and at some point I must hop on to just "check and see how I am doing really quick", lol.

Ar a high-end poetry workshop I used to moderate, we had an "art" side forum and I posted occasional pictures there. One of our members PM'd me and said I ought to check this place out. I joined the same day, December 16, 2004: best move I ever made online :-)

But just think what my $25 has done for everyone. I'm giving them a 1 place better finish in every challenge I enter. ;-)

I think I saw a link to gerdagrice's DPC prints on another photography site. I clicked on it and from there found this site. I looked at the site, was a bit intimidated by the rules when I read them (thought for sure anything I submitted woulkd get DQ'ed and I'd be banned from the site, the literal art work rule had me worried). So I left. A few months later (last fall) I was looking for more online photo contests (I enter a lot of photo-of-the-day contests) so I came back to this site and I've been hooked ever since.

I came here via google - wanting to learn more about photography and being the "it's always fun when it's competitive" kind of person, DPC seemed perfect for me.

Surfing the net, wandering aimlessly around looking for different photography sites and I just happened upon this place. Been here ever since. I think I paid for an account the first day, and honestly, it is my favorite place on the net. The peeps here are wonderful!!! |
