I picked up a Canon 50mm f/2.5 EF COMPACT MACRO LENS... would i get a closer macro shot if I added the 1.4x/2.0x extender? advantages or disadvantages?

I don't think the extenders are compatible with your lens.

For the extenders: "As a rule, but subject to change, the compatible lenses include fixed focal length L lenses 135mm and longer, zoom L lenses at least 70mm on their wide end and Canon TS-E Tilt-Shift lenses. "

Maybe you are talking about extension tubes. These are different from the extenders.

In short, yes, you would, barring mechanical incompatibility. With the 2.0x extender, for instance, you'd wind up with a 100mm f/5.0 lens with double the maximum magnification. Also FWIW, if the 50/2.5 will not mount on the extender due to mechanical interference, it's possible to mount an extension tube between them to eliminate the interference. You then lose infinity focus, and gain a little more magnification.
You may or may not be satisfied with the ultimate image quality. A simpler strategy is just to use 50mm of extension tubes, which will have approximately the same effect on magnification.

Where did you get your question from?

I only asked that question because I would like to use my macro lense to get the nice upclose shots.. Cory, It just came to me.. One of those "What if I did that.." kind of question that came to me, just trying to figure if it was possible.
