I honestly have never been that interested in the scores or the placements. I enter because i enjoy having new challenges and things to do with my photography each week and i enjoy seeing what other people come up with when faced with the same subject. Getting comments is good particularly when they are from people who are fantastic at commenting and engaging with an image (just got a wonderful one from K10Guy on one entry). I've got my favourite photographers and people here and i enjoy seeing their photographs and reading their opinions and advice. |

There is no disagreeing with the fact that higher placing images get more comments... the quality of the comments as a learning tool is however a totally different matter.
... and no I have never won a ribbon either.

well said, i think the longer you hang around here the more you gravitate to this this mindset.

So if you win with a 6.xxxx or a 7.xxxx, the end result is the same. You still win. That's why scores don't matter. |
How many ribbons did you get with a 4+ score?
PS You are being pedantic. |
Play nice. I don't want to be the playground monitor. (ie. you're goading him, and it is going to land you in trouble) |

We've gone round and round on this. :-/ For me, since I'll probably never win a ribbon, if I'm not in the top 5, (which I'll probably never crack either) the score means much more to me than placement. I always strive to at least beat my avg. Some members don't care about their score but I, and many others, are trying to improve our averages as that is a small indication to us that our images have some kind of appeal to the DPC members and maybe even the general public. Although I've won Best of Show a few times with images in competitions that have not scored very well here, I, and probably others, wish to see 6+ scores on our images if possible.... at least it seems that way from those that post in the "Scores" threads. :-) So saying scores "don't matter" is not true for many of us, and that is why we will always see threads asking why something didn't score higher and why we moan and groan in the scores threads. :-) |
