My camera shop is holding a free contest. I'm only allowed to enter one image; any subject. Which of these images do you feel would have a better chance in a contest? Feel free to choose another image from my site if you feel it's strong enough. The image are:

Larger version here: Waterfall

Larger version here: Lighthouse

Larger version here: Lightning

Thanks a bunch for your help.

I'd go with "Waterfall". I love the composition, and you've captured some beautiful, rich tones. I wouldn't change a thing.

I agree.The waterfall is NICE.

I say waterfall...best colour....lots of motion...really sharp pic

The lighthouse is nice too but doesn't come close to the waterfall

Lightning is very cool and a hard pic to get composed that good...but the rest of the background just doesn't have the oomph! of the waterfall

Hope this helps

Either the 2nd or the 3rd picture.

They are all nicely done. Personally, I like the lighthouse. I like the design. but the colors, at least on my monitor, are a bit off! Great work though!

While I like the lighthouse photo the best because I really like the colors and feel, I think the waterfall has the most impact. They are all really nice and choosing one over the others would be hard! Good luck:)

Of the three I would agree on the Waterfall.

I also took a look through your gallery and your picture of kittens on a colourful lawn chair is priceless. That one might be another option.

Thanks you guys! This is really helpful. It's always hard to examine your own work. Would love to hear more opinions as well. Keep them coming.

Current results:

Waterfall - 5

Lighthouse - 2.5

Lightning - 1.5

(the half points reflect kyebosh's vote :-D )

I'm on this bandwagon!

All three are nice shots but the waterfall pic has the best chance. The lightening shot I think would need something else to add more interest like trees or a city skyline.
Great pics!

waterfall and lighthouse both look better than the lightning IMO.

I would choose them in the order you listed them; waterfall, lighthouse and then the lightning.

I avoided commenting earlier because I have been in a bit of a mood that I can't seem to shake -- I'm just not seeing the good in things like I normally do. Take the following with a grain of salt.

The waterfall has a lot of impact to it and is a very powerful image, but that brownish tinge really throws me off. I keep looking for an indication of why it is there, but have not found it. Your images are not such that I would expect to find a color-cast, so I am probably missing something.

The lighthouse is seriously lacking in contrast. The composition is great; but if you were going for a mood with the low contrast I'm afraid I am not 'getting' it.

The lightning is a wonderful capture, but without a point of reference to indicate the scale ... it is just streaks of light.

You did not mention how the judging will be conducted; but if it is judges by a panel of 'experts', then any of them are likely to do well, but if judged by the public the lighthouse would have a good chance if it had more punch.

Waterfall... People love water falls..

Waterfall.

And on your 800 pixel version I would crop away another 15 pixels on the left side, I feel the left darker side has just a bit too much emphasis. It would further improve the composition in my view.
