I just got a new (used) lens and was a little surprised by the fringing. Does anyone else who has this lens have this same problem or is there something wrong with this one? This is a near 100% crop at f/2.8 and 70mm.

how is it when you should against something severely backlit?

CA is so easily removed in post, i wouldn't be too concerned. from the link above its look normal, at least at the edges.

I must be quite bad at post because everything I've been trying in Aperture or Lightroom doesn't seem to fix it. I can make it ok in one spot but then it still looks terrible in another. But that really only applies to in-focus stuff. The out of focus, like in this picture, I can't do anything with. I saw this most notably in out of focus regions of a highly backlit scene.

anything at 2.8 is going to be suffering a bit, have you used the lens correction profile in lightroom
my mark 1 and older 28-70 on my full frame bodies don't look that fluffy |

What you're seeing is axial (longitudinal) CA, which affects out-of-focus areas. Unlike lateral CA, it's not possible to easily correct it in software. Nearly all lenses will have some axial CA; fast lenses shot wide open will show it the worst, and WA lenses moreso than longer focal lengths.
