So my team and I debated on whether to do this photo in B&W or color and most of the team preferred b&w. But one of the fears was that in b&w this image would fool people into thinking it was just a photograph of a statue. From one of the comments I am guessing that is the case. So I am interested in finding out who I fooled and if it affected your vote. Don't worry I won't be offended. I just think it will be interesting to find out. Just for your info this is my daughter dressed up and painted to look like a statue:
Challenge entry:
In color:
And a few more that I edited just for fun:
BTW:I'm guessing most of my low scores came from it not being crooked enough, not necessarily from not knowing it was a statue.

First glance caught me thinking it was a statue, but a blink later, it was obvious. Gave it a 7. Would have scored it lower in color. |

I recognized the kid and the costume - you posted that here before, I think it was a "how to" that you put together for another board on building the costume. |

I knew it was a costume, and I knew it was your daughter... It's well-made so you got a 6 from me even though I didn't feel the image addressed the challenge particularly well. |

I recognized her as a young girl and not a statue. The costume is extremly well done - I was wondering about the passage between sleeve and hand...
Like Bear I think it was not crooked enough for most voters, maybe. I gave you a 7 |

I suspect it was not crooked enough for some voters as the photo itself is excellent and goes without saying the costume making is on another level. |

Admittedly, I was voting over the speed limit -- but it did stop me and made me look. I wasn't sure. It didn't affect my vote. |

I'm thinking you should have tilted your camera, too, for full points from some :) |

I like the b/w best. I looked at the whole scene, which I liked for a subtle but good Crooked entry, but missed that she was a model.
I was one of your 9 votes. I'm so glad that you didn't do the tilt thing!

I gave it a 7 and spotted it second glance. In (say) graveyeards it would have placed much higher I'm sure. |

yes I knew it really was the crooked aspect that hurt it most. I honestly don't like crooked(tilted) photographs for the most part, so I didn't want to go that route. There are always a few that I like tilted but my OCD really kicks in and it sort of drives me crazy.

I was unsure if it was a statue, but I gave the benefit of the doubt and a 7. I'm smacking my forehead over the fact that some people thought it didn't meet the challenge... She is "holding up" a gravestone that is crooked. The whole point of the shot is about the crookedness of that gravestone.
It boggles my mind how unsubtle the voters are. Even Bear Music??? |

Remember the thread about unnecessary or confusing challenge descriptions? This description was not to "shoot something crooked" (like I did) but it was "Skewed horizons, twisted perspectives, use your imagination and go out-of-the-box and out-of-whack This week." hard to tell how many voters took that part literally.

I *did* give it a 6, and I *did* say I didn't think it met the challenge "particularly well", not that I thought it didn't meet the challenge at all. I'm a bit more literal than you, Don, but I'm not hopeless by any means... |
