Hi,

I recently purchased a used Minolta Dimage 7i that was broken, it had the zoom encoder wheel snapped and and internal ribbon cable was damaged, I repaired it all and it is a really nice camera that takes excellent pictures, however!!, When i setup a text page exactly one meter away from the end of the lens to photograph (no zoom used), it works fine in autofocus mode, nice and sharp capturing detail as small as 1mm from that distance, but if i use the manual focus set to exactly 1 meter using the focus wheel then the picture is out of focus ??

Have i got something setup wrong in the camera ??, or is this normal for digital cameras ??

Many thanks for any help you can give

Don't measure from the end of the lens. Try measuring from the camera body, 1 meter from the CCD.

To this day I havent been able to manually focus my DiMage 7i. The focus ring is in an odd position and it seems like I turn it and turn it with no results. AF has is great though.

Thanks for the replies,

I have redone them measuring from the camera body centre (where the ccd chip is) and got exactly the same results, it is in focus when it is displaying a sideways 8 (infinity ??), the manual focus jumps between 0.5m 0.7m 1m 1.5m 2m and sideways 8, so i guess it just isnt very accurate,

Maybe im just being paranoid about it as i have repaired it myself, i just wanted to make sure i was getting the best quality shots possible !

I have got the technical manual for the dimage 7 if anyones interested, i have been looking out for the recalibration software for the dimage 7i but cant find it anywhere on the web, anyone got a copy of it ??

Cheers

It does sound like something's still not right with the manual focus, but might not be worth further digging to find out what, if it's working fine in AF mode. In any case, I've never had good luck manually focusing any camera using an LCD display or EVF, so I wouldn't sweat it; you're not missing much.

I'm not familiar with your type of camera, but if it has a diopter try adjusting it.. a good way if it does is use the af and the tune the diopter to that.

i wish it was something as simple as a diopter adjustment, but i am taking shots and looking at them on my computer, i'm not relying on the lcd to focus,

Where i'm using the lcd to focus, i meant the top information lcd (no pictures on it) not the back colour lcd or the evf colour lcd, but i have already setup the diopter adjuster and it makes no difference to the shots

Cheers
