Well then everyone is in the same boat too, and no-one gains, so now I feel so much better lol! |

I probably helped your E FS score recently. :D
I must have gotten several low votes on my For Sale.
It's at 4.250. Lovin' it! :D

My 3 posts got tanked big time after really good marks. The game was afoot for someone, (a very stern and demanding person/s). |

Same here. My EFS was in the mid 6's and at an even 6.0 this morning when I got up, so I agree someone is voting harshly. |

Voting overall seems to have gotten a lot harsher in the last year or so. I recently got 4th place with a 6.1.
Plus having threads like this only serves to encourage those wielding the power of "1" - they probably get some sort of thrill watching everyone get all riled up by their anonymous dig. |

I know that SC can see how people vote, maybe it would be a good idea to take that person/s aside and have a talk? This does not help with participation levels.
I know that some vote on a relative scale - 1 for the worst image, 10 for the best in a specific challenge, based on whatever are their criteria. I think that most vote on absolute scale knowing that many regular participants are seasoned photogs who know how to meet a challenge and have grasped the basics of making images. I vote on the scale 4 to 10, 4 is rare, mostly I vote either 5 or 6, with few 7s. There are also occasional excellent images that get my 10s. I am very happy that these images still get created for DPC challenges, thanks!
I am alarmed with the wild swings in the gap between Participants and Non Participants averages. When I check who the participants were and see familiar names I cannot understand at all why some of these long term DPCers have voted so low, this really beats me. |

That's not entirely true. What we CAN do is go to any particular person's records and see what their voting stats are. We can see how many 1's and how many 10's (and all the other numbers in between) they have given out. We can see these stats, if we go a little further, for a given challenge; that is to say, we can dive into your stats and see how many 9's you have given lifetime, and how many you have given in any particular challenge. What we can't do (with the tools we have now) is see WHO you gave those 9's to in that particular challenge, or any other challenge.
We DO have a tool that allows us to probe for "friend voting" by asking the system for a list of individuals to whom you have given more than, say, six 10's over your voting history. So we can, very laboriously, slowly create a picture of who you "favor" and who you "punish", but that's not really a useful statistic to work with because, obviously, you may (for example) hate blurry pictures and give a whole LOT of very low scores to them whenever you see them, which ends up looking like you are hating on JM Ritz, but of course it has nothing to do with him, personally, just his style.
Not "YOU" you of course, I have no idea how you deal with blurry pictures when you vote, just in general.
In a similar vein, YOU probably get a lot of really high scores from certain specific people, over and over again, because they really, really like your way of seeing your gorgeous corner of the world, and we need to be aware of that before we draw negative conclusions from the fact that "Voter X" has given "Entrant Z" 9-or-10 in 7 of the last 9 challenges.
So, going back to the issue of rooting out the low-ballers and somehow getting them to toe the line, we actually DO that to some extent, quietly and behind the scenes, but for obvious reasons it's not something we'd air out in public, and we never will. But it's not our job to tell people how to vote, that's just not morally acceptable unless we can pinpoint that someone if just messing with our heads and being an antisocial participant in the game. If we become convinced that a specific individual is acting maliciously we will (and have) do something about it. But again, it's not something we make public.
*********************
And this is more than I really should have said on the subject and it's not something we really want to debate at the moment. IF we ever get the new site with modern coding and an easily accessible database that we can query with ease, THEN we might put new procedures in place. But not unless and until :-) |

The uno bomber strikers again. My unusual POV entry has been falling all week, but now it's looking really sad.
