In a strange bit of synchronicity, both odriew and I entered pictures from the same spot above Ten Mile Beach in Pt. Reyes. No, we didn't go out together. We don't even know each other. The images were taken a week apart. Who would've thought two DPC members would independently end up at the same spot for the same challenge? It's not like this is the Golden Gate Bridge overlook ... just a random spot on a curve in the road to the lighthouse (albeit ablaze with yellow lupine!).
I about fell out of my chair when I saw his image come up as the first one in voting on the challenge. And in an even stranger (or perhaps reassuring) bit of syncrhonicity, the images finished in pretty much the same place, only 0.0008 points apart. Take that, you who think the voters are inconsistent!

I had noticed those shots and assumed 2 members were out together. What a coincidence! |

And not only that, also almost the same score. Really funny :-) |

I can't remember when exactly but I'm pretty sure this has happened once or maybe twice in the course of over 3500 challenges.
Still amazing, although from the description of where the photo was taken I suspect that a few (thousand?) other folks have stopped there to take virtually the same shot -- there are a couple of places near me like that ...

When voting for this challenge I was also surprised to see another entry of the exact same subject (albeit from different perspectives). I had no idea MaryO had slipped into town.

I noticed those as well, but know the drone shot had to be from you. Were you flying from that building you took me to? That's a good distance with some buildings in between. |

I had totally assumed that the Point Reyes photos were from folks who went out together, LOL! What a strange coincidence. Back in the day, I could have seen that happening with Cannon Beach. I don't think there are any more active members in the area now. |

I'm more surprised by the score being the same. I gave them both a 6, but odriew's felt like a more perfect and compositionally balanced DPC shot while the EstimatedEyes shot seemed more clumsy and human. I don't expect dpc voters to think like me. |

I had the opposite reaction. I thought the clumsy human's shot was much more interesting and I gave it a significantly higher score. And so it goes :-) |

Other than a great coincidence, and I do "collect" coincidences of any kind, I think this conversation on similar pictures is very interesting and worth having in general.
odriew picture made me feel unstable - image was sliding visually and compositionally to the left side; the waves pushed to the right and the flowers to the left
I gave a higher mark to EstimatedEyes. A balanced, honest picture. I couldn't attribute clumsiness to it. |

Interesting set of coincidences! We didn’t drive to this particular spot with the landscape challenge in mind. This was an unexpected stop on the way to the lighthouse. |

Ha ha, I did over-represent Cannon Beach with several others for years, but moved away from almost a decade ago now. |

No. I was near the shoreline in a park with a clear line of site. Still is was about a mile out. |
