Yesterday morning I turned to run up the driveway barefoot to grab something and heard a loud pop and stabbing pain in my calf. Went to the doctor and they determined I tore my calf muscle; HUGE change to the days and weeks to come for me. But since I am a last minute Lucy that greatly inhibited my plans for shooting Negative. I let my team know I wouldn̢۪t be entering. As the day languished on with ice and immobility I asked my husband to grab my gear for me that I needed to at least try to do something; I couldn̢۪t go out on DPL without entering, even if it wasn̢۪t what I had planned.

He brings me my bag, questioning how I carry all that I do and why. Side note,I keep small packets of moisture absorbers in my pack to absorb moisture (living in a rainy climate). Unbeknownst to me one had slipped between my lens hood (on backwards) and the barrel of the lens. He hands me the lens I ask for and I hear shaking sounds and keep turning it up and down, up and down-all the while it sounds like sand inside the lens. I say ‘well, that’s not good. It isn’t supposed to sound like that’. I am wracking my brain, where did I go with sand and this lens off my camera body? I go to remove the hood as I’m staying inside and out falls one of the smaller sized packets. I started laughing so hard and said, that is hysterical, what a fool I am!

He didn̢۪t quite get it, I knew you all would and although I sure look/sound foolish; I don̢۪t care - I know you all would appreciate the humility of the moment and the soul searching, re-cap of what I could possibly have done to create that shaking sound.

It would take me 10+ minutes to explain what went through my brain in 45 seconds! The run down of the past week̢۪s activity, where I was, what I took with me, so many thoughts and then the largest sigh of relief, stress replaced with laughter.

Great story, but more importantly take care and I hope your calf muscle healing and recovery goes smoothly.

Apparently, we are long lost relatives.....

I too am related to that bastid Murphy!

Sorry to hear of your injury.

Take your recovery seriously and follow your doc's healing instructions to the letter.

Torn muscles, healed improperly, will cause a lifetime of grief.

Be good to yourself.

I'm very sorry to hear about your injury and hope you heal quickly.

I too have a ton of those desiccant packets in all my camera bags. And they do end up in unexpected places.

Thank you all for the well wishes; I could use them and appreciate them. I have a long awaited trip coming up in two weeks and just praying that I will be mobile by then, I'm okay if I have to move slower; I just need to ditch the crutches and be able to walk. Fingers crossed!

bohemka isn't that so true. I ordered large ones, but have a habit of throwing them in there whenever one comes with something I get and this one was especially small.

NikonJeb thank you for the advice on doctors orders. I am trying VERY hard to follow the and not push it. My trip is helping to provide motivation to not go backwards, but it is hard to not do all the stuff I usually do. Side note, if we are related does that mean I can borrow a classic car of yours?

penelopek I sure hope it goes smoothly too! Fingers crossed for sure. This is the start of my busy season and I really wanted to do some landscape photography this summer which involves some hiking and right now, that is not happening.

Hope you heal quickly and are able to ditch the crutches soon.

Oh NO!!

I'm so sorry!

At least you kept your sense of humor.

Heal quickly!

Oh no, that is challenging. Being injured and forced to slow down when you are used to going 100 mph is so hard. Take it easy
I hope you heal quickly.

Don't know if you had a camera with you but I think that exam room would've been a pretty negative space.

As mentioned, serious muscle injuries are prone to repeated injury if not fully and properly healed (same for ligaments, like a sprained ankle). If you're at all impaired when traveling consider using a walker (or maybe even a wheelchair) if you can't use crutches -- you can probably rent them.

I came here to say basically what the General did. Maybe you can rent one of these :)

As a veteran of big injuries, I feel your pain. And the best advice you've gotten is "don't push it".

funny you say that, my mom had one and I have been using it. I am trying really hard to not push it but not going to lie, it is very hard for me. That and relying on other̢۪s are not my strong suit.

GeneralE No camera with me, but you are right that would have been funny.

Tjbel05 funniest part is that I didn’t realize how much I get up and and down in the evening and just ‘in general’.
