My original concept was for a shot of bourbon against an oak background. That turned out to be too much the same color, so I switched it up to having a blue leather background.

It seemed too "boring" after I finally got it shot, so I pivoted to using a bottle of Stella for the entry, as that at least had the condensation and bubbles inside for extra interest. Was fun playing with lighting and glass - that's always a challenge, and it had been a while since I last tried it!

You chose the right one.

Brent, you definitely made the right choice. I really like your choice of the very close framing on the entry. Kinda surprised in retrospect that you did not score 6+ on this.
Gina, I think you made the right choice as well; the voters certainly had a mostly "meh" reaction though! I do think that your processing had positive impact, but the image does not seem to "grab the voter's attention" in that critical first second or two of viewing, asking for a deeper look. I think that is the root of the middling scores.

Thanks Fritz. I've had several scores below 5 lately, so middling doesn't bother me. The subject was boring but I decided to enter because I wanted to experiment with off-camera flash. Unfortunately I couldn't get the lighting right and ended up entering a photo that was shot without flash.

Thanks Fritz and Gina!

I was also surprised that I didn't break into the 6s with this one. But it's good to know that my instinct was right, switching away from the initial idea.
