Has any Nikon users tried or bought the Nikon Z8 mirrorless? I have two friends who just received theirs and think it is really fabulous.
I am using the Z7ii which changed my life. I could not love a camera more. The tracking is apparently lacking compared to the Sony but I have always loved the nuance of Nikon color and using a mirrorless as compared to a dslr has been wonderful.
If anyone has it, I'd love to know your opinion

I don't have direct experience, but it seems from the talk on the 'net that the biggest difference is in AF performance, with the Z8 getting substantially improved grades there. The Z8 also has improved video capabilities, and faster sensor read-out speeds (so electronic shutter will have less of the rolling shutter effect).
Is this worth $1k? Dunno, really. If for your particular use cases the AF on the Z7 II is struggling, or you feel the improved video capability and reduced rolling shutter is a big deal, then perhaps. In the past, these are the kind of incremental upgrades that I have passed on.

Thanks for your take Fritz. I don't use video and occasionally the AF stalls but not enough to warrant an upgrade.
It's amazing..there used to be a lot of Nikon users here..I guess not so much anymore.

Late to the party, but I just got one for Christmas :-) Still learning how to use its many, many features, but so far I'm very pleased with it. Got the FTZ adapter so I'm still using my old lenses with it. I may ask for a Z lens for my upcoming birthday LOL.

Need to go find some moving critters and really test out the 3D tracking. The focus-on-eyeballs features work well (but they're not new to this Nikon mirrorless), the low light performance seems excellent, and the electronic viewfinder seems to kick on faster than the Z6II and Z7II I rented a couple of years ago. I did manage to catch one bird in flight the other day with 3D tracking on and focus set to find animal eyes and the bird's eye was perfectly captured. Pretty cool, but I need to try that feature out some more. Really don't feel like I've mastered it, and I do love a good bird in flight image.

My ancient Lightroom wasn't reading the RAW NEF files so I've been shooting JPG and blowing out some highlights, which is on me, of course. Just upgraded my Camera RAW so maybe I'll try again. Or maybe I'll finally have to break down and sign up for the Creative Cloud. I really prefer owning my software but the subscription stuff seems to be the way of the future whether I like it or not.
