Hi,

My software to manage and process my photos is very old (Photoshop Element 9). I am looking to replace it, but I don't know if it's my better option to get the last version of the same one.

Do you have any suggestions - at affordable cost?

Thanks in advance.

I use Luminar Neo for RAW editing and Corel Paintshop Pro for final polishing and some things I find easier to do in it.

I'm unlikely to ever switch from PaintShop Pro as I've been using it so long now.

Updating Elements is certainly feasible, and affordable as current pricing is $99, I believe. As Steve has posted, there are other options that are also affordable. If you are open to subscriptions, Adobe does offer the Photoshop/Lightroom combination to individuals for $10 per month. I'd only recommend that if:
- You are willing to take some time to learn the ins and outs of Lightroom. It's a powerful tool to manage a library of phots, but it does have a learning curve
- You have a relatively recent and capable computer.

Some relevant questions:
1.) Do you shoot in RAW or JPEG?
2.) How many photos do you currently have in your library that you would want to manage, and how much do you shoot?
3.) How much post-processing do you do? If the answer is you mostly only do the basics, you may be better off sticking with what you know.

Thank you for your answers.

I was looking at Lightroom, but I'm not sure I want to pay a monthly subscription. I prefer buy the product, but I know it's the way to do now. I am certainly ok to learn a new software, but asking myself if the switch was the good move to do.

I'm not a professionnal. I'm doing this because I like it and it makes me feel good. I learn a lot on this site and want to continue to improve my skills.

But, when you are used to a product it's hard to switch to another. I wanted advices from others. I trust the community here.

Thanks again.

This is what I do and recommend. However, I use a very old version of Photoshop, and don't use software for cataloging or managing files -- if that's the big issue (as opposed to editing capabilities) I'd say upgrade to a newer version of Elements if available.
