I had something happen yesterday that concerned me.

Went out for awhile and took some photos with my Sony A7RIII. Put the camera away, came home, put the bag next to a chair in the den to pull the SD cards later.
Couple hours go by and I finally pull the camera out. Before I even opened the bag I could feel the heat! The camera was very hot. I'd forgotten to turn the camera off.

I guess the enclosed space of the bag was too much and somehow the camera, being on, was drawing juice from the battery? Kind of scary!

Pulled the battery out and left everything sit. All seems well today.

The camera should be fine. It's the battery that may be damaged. I cooked one that way years ago and it lost a lot of capacity, FWIW.

Do you not have an option to have the camera turn itself off after a designated period of time? (It has saved me trouble many times).

Gah! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye on the battery status. Will be interesting to compare it to the other one I have.

Hmm. Not sure. But I'm going to take a look. Thanks for the suggestion!

The auto-off functions are fine, but if a camera is in a bag in such a way that a button intermittently gets pressed, it will keep waking up, and that could be a problem. The shutter button getting half-pressed is most likely, it doesn't take much pressure.
