Well, i've been trying to come up with something for the lucky 7 challenge, i like this a lot, but didn't think it would do well in the challenge:
However, in the process i've come up with the whole Project Slinky deal...
Would appreciate any opinions. I do realize this not everyone is going to like it... Thankie. |

Not sure that shot would have done well in the challenge, but your project shots are superb abstracts!

I agree with suemack... They would make terrific prints. I was first dazzled a bit by it. For some reason I assumed there was only one Slinky and I was trying to figure out how you made it look like that (shadow? mirror? multiple exposure? etc.) but then I realized there's two of them!
There's two of them, right?

Yup, it was two, hanging on a little screw-in plant hook, with a fluorescent light in the back, and various other things to add back color, such as CDs (regular and blue surface), origami papers, etc.
If one is long enough, i think it's doable with just one, but they were like $2 apiece, so i got two =)
It's 12 shots, 'cause i was thinking about a calendar or something... unless i get lazy again, which is very likely.
Thanks for the replies, appreciate the support. |

I would have most likely scored the challenge idea a nine (Maybe an eight if I was having a bad day :P).
Shame you didn't enter.... Though my taste sometimes isn't the best indicator of mass appeal.
As for project slinky, I am officially jealous I didn't come up with that myself - one and eleven in particular are great. |

For the record, there is practically no photoshop in these. Just two are artificially colored. I'm trying to be one of those purists... 99.5% of my photos can be done with a film camera and no computer at all.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. |

Yura, those are wonderful. I constantly am amazed by creative minds. I don't know how one would have done in the challenge -- if I had that figured out I'd be scoring higher ;-) But as a collection they are very impressive. Thanks for sharing them. |

I had a look at them earlier. Cool stuff. I really liked 6,7 & 11.
I tried to photograph a slinky sometime ago and failed big time! The images didn't even make it to the computer. They came out as the most boring images you will ever see.
And now I see you images and I am amazed! The way you have used the slinkies and combined lights/colours are brilliant. I think I want to try something like that. |

Congrats Yura on the slikny series and for starting this thread. This is high quality work. It's a pleasant refresh to have some focus on abstraction for a change. I have been working in somewhat similar directions for some time. It's absolutly neccesary to have individuals like you here on DPC who experiment, follow their creative instinct and dare to submit work that is different from the majority.
I left comments on a few of the shots. |
