what do the member icons mean? - DPChallenge Forums

I've read the FAQ re. the icons. However, there are several members who have icons that are not listed or explained. Could someone fill in for a fairly recent member just what these icons signify?

The really goofy looking ones (like mine) that also have sunglasses are for the members of the Site Council. :)

Good idea. Looks like it wasn't updated when we got customized icons.

As an addition to what has been said, in the Community/Photographer Profiles menu you will find the Admins followed by the Site Council listed before all others. This way you can see what all the unique icons look like at once.

Why are some of them solid blue with no face - ie, their back turned?

Because the gender is unspecified.

I s'pose that might mean that those members are either confused, have yet to discover which gender they are, or perhaps are hermaphrodites. Now't wrong with that of course.

The globes mean they have a website listed. The little text boxes means they have a bio and the picture means they've posted a picture in their profile.

If you hold your mouse over the icons, the alt text tells you what it is.

To clarfy, mk was referring to the iconns next to the user icons on the Community/Photographer Profiles page. Can you see the text for those?

Ah yes, perhaps. There is a bit of a key here but we should probably add those icons to it!

Ah yes, perhaps. There is a bit of a key here but we should probably add those icons to it!

If the description is in the "alt" attribute, rather than the "title" attribute, then it won't display when hovering over the image in some browsers. You're actually supposed to use "title" if you want the text to appear when hovering over the image ("alt" is for text that displays in place of the image, if it doesn't load for some reason) but certain browsers (*cough*Internet Explorer*cough*) incorrectly accept "alt" for both purposes.
