my point, again, was: it was hard enough meeting the challenge, w/o people being nitpicky about minor issues. sigh. [/i]

My point is that it's impossible to draw a line to define what a 'minor issue' is, since we have no idea who all the photographers are and their skill in analyzing their own work (a monumental task) while voting. What is a minor issue to you might have been completely overlooked by someone else. The wide range of skill here means those of us who have more practice evaluating our own pictures will need to politely endure a few extra 'out of focus' and 'frame it this way' comments to ensure that those who don't get the feedback they need!

I know that I won't even see *glaring* issues until days after I've finished a photo, I'll often have to go back three or four times to get exactly the photo I want! I'm greatful for every comment I get, even if it's the same thing over and over. It helps me keep it in mind the next time I'm out shooting.

Speaking about minor issues, someone picked up on something on the very border of my picture and said it was distracting them. I went and had a look, it is actually 9 pixels. So they liked the 307191 other pixels, but felt that those 9, on the very edge were spoiling it :)

Yep, I thought so too but just didn't mention it. They make the whole shot just AWFUL. I think you should withdraw it and hide your face for two weeks.
We should all be so fortunate to have only 9. Suck it up Gordon. We will help you get over it.

You had two patches on the mirror on your magical curves shot. I had to give it a 1 because of that. Was the main focus of the whole picture. Can't you clean a mirror properly ? ;)

I got you beat on the pixels. I had a comment on my curves challenge saying the lack of focus and the "speckles" distracted. Yeah, I can understand the focus but the speckles were 2 tiny pixels on the bottom. They were actually pinpoint sized light reflections on the fabric that I didn't dare touch up.

Gordon, I don't know if you are referring to my comment or not but I did make a similar comment on a photo. And the very first thing I said was that I love it and I said that I had one nit-picky issue with it. I hope you are not referring to my comment and turning it around to say that I thought it spoiled the picture. By the way, the picture that I nit-picked I gave a 9 and that is very far from spoiled. The small detail that I was talking about was a cropping issue, very easily corrected and not some dust ot specks that wasn't obvious when the picture was first taken. By the way, I don't feel there are too insignificant of details to discuss in a critique. It is often small details that decide winners. And some of you wonder why people are hesitant to make remarks when those very remarks are likely to be judged in the forums.

Oh my my my Gordon, I was only kidding. You know what I think of your work. I hope to do as well someday myself. My stuff stinks but I got no 1's on the curves. Did you mean to say a 10?

wooah... I was only poking light fun at what I thought was very insightful comment. Someone mentioned not wanting to post comments about minor issues, and I was just saying someone commented on something that was about as minor as it can get. I happen to agree with your comment - I was just trying to show that it can't be too minor.

David Ey, I was only poking fun too - I certainly wasn't taking offense or being upset at anything you said - thought I replied in a similar tone to your comment ;) (btw, I checked, I gave it a 9...)

After so many years I should realise that tone and humor never come across too well on the 'net. Sorry for any confusion/ offense taken. I do really appreciate any and all comments on my pictures, either globally or about small details.

Thanks Gordon, I should have realized it was no time for jokes. As you say, teasing doesn't always go over too well in the forums. I am not trained enough to see any of these faults. ô

I know this is all in fun but you are still making a point and I am responding in my own way. You can't expect to make a comment like that and not get a response.

mouse, i couldnt agree with you more. all i was trying to point out was that due to the difficulty of meeting the challenge conditions, I think overall picture quality in this particular one suffered. And since that is pretty uniformly the case, people might want to take that into account when judging it. Because honestly, and this applies to my own entry too, I don't think even the best pics in this challenge are as good as the vast majority of the pics in the previous challenge, in terms of creativity, lighting, image quality, concept, color, composition, finish, exposure and focus. but before I get flamed, that's just my opinion :)

I think if the entries were uniformly bad, then people should just vote like they would normally and the final average will just be a bit lower, but it'll all balance out.

On the bright side, I've had tons of comments this week (45 so far) very much appreciated.
