i've looked up some reviews but just wondering if anyone has had personal experience..my car is a black 98 mitsubishi eclipse and the roof has totally faded down to the clear coat..so my roof is white :(.. bi dont want to spend thousands of dollars for a car thats paid off but i also dont want to spend less and have it look worse, any thoughts?

I had a MAACO paint job on my very first car... it wasn't exactly what I would call showroom quality, but it looked a helluva lot better than tri-colored primer. ;o) Just remember you get what you pay for.

maaco is an ok paint shop, you can get a basic pait job for under $200 (i think, maybe $249). But their quality is not all that good. unless you pay extra to have clear coat put on or a little extra sanding and priming done, in a few years it will be faded again.

I had an old camaro painted by them back inthe mid 80's and I was happy with the results. of course I paid an extra $100 to have it clear coated.

Dollar for dollar its hard to beat Maaco. The local one here anyway. I see the cars as they come out and they look as good as anywhere. And yes I see cars that come out of every shop around.

Question is, how long will you keep the car? For what they charge, you can bet they are not filling, sanding, primeng, sanding between couats, heck, they most often don't even remove trim, they just mask it off. Eventually, you will have problems, though it will probably look fine coming out of the shop. You do get what you pay for, but if you're just looking to make it look better for a year or two, then perhaps it would fit the bill.

Agree with kirbic. Might add that you can help yourself out by masking or removing the trim yourself (if you are so inclined). Clear coat: with todays paints it is almost a must. Are you having only the top done or the entire car? That is an option. If only the top, you have to worry about blending the two tones. But since you said it was badly faded I am assuming the entire car is to be done. And from your profile you sound like a young lady that can handle yourself. . . so don't blow a cork with my next suggestion. Take a male (or female) with you that knows about body work. Also, stop at an Autozone when they aren't busy and have them look at it. I have found over and over again that their staff is extremely well trained. Ask them questions as to what needs to be done. Remember, MAACO is out to sell paint jobs with all the trimmings! Depending on the local franchise. . . they do some good work. But the bottom line, as everyone has said. . . "you get what you pay for."

Personally, I would advise against MAACO. I had a Blazer painted in 2001. Initially it was painted the absolutely WRONG color. I wanted it green, they painted it red. They asked me if $50 would be enough off the price for me keep the vehicle as is. For a total job cost of near $1000 (needed a bit of body work and a new tailgate) I felt that $50 for their mistake was an insult.
Anyhow, they simply just painted over the red when they painted it the correct color. They said they would sand off the wrong color but did not.
Finally, within a year the paint was already flaking off in odd places, the roof, the tailgate, the sides (and yes, I had a clearcoat)...I went back in and asked them about it and they said it was not their fault and they would not do anything about it. (Even though it was still under their guaranty, but they said it was not their fault so they didn't do a darn thing.)
Long story short, unless you plan on selling this car right away I would never get another job from them. Spend a few extra bucks and get a job from a better company that will last years longer and look much better.

If you have a good body shop do the prep work on the car, the MAACO people have very good, high quality paint booths. Take a good paint to them, with your car prepped, and you'll get a decent job.
