Someone downgraded my photo and other just because we used the challenge noun in our picture titles. Downgraded on that fact alone. Nothing to due with the photo. Just because they feel the following way..

Fine. just wait until find out this person. I have a few week of penalize scores for them as well because they DONT use the challenge noun in the title.

Completely against what this site is all about. This isnt a protest site. You wanna protest??!! Join Greenpeace!!

so you got a rough comment...it's just one vote, won't even matter statistically. that's the way it goes sometimes. simply ignore it, and move on.

Report the cut & paste comment to the SC
unless he/she is adding additional comments to the cut&paste, I don't think it's allowed...

I dont mind comments.. bad or good when it deals with the photo. That is why I joined.

This is just stupid. It means now besides thinking about the composition of our shots we have to also consider we might lose points becuase someone doesnt like our titles.

I was considering becoming a paying member but if people behave like that, then whats the point when they get upset about picture titles.

Not saying it's right or wrong...but to be fair they do say [i][I will most likely not down grade, but it better be good/i]

Everyone gets comments that they don't like and everyone is also entitled to vote how he/she wishes. The comment in this instance may not have been completely appropriate, but I wouldn't let it ruin your day.

Good or bad, the title is included as part of the presentation in a lot of cases so it's considered fair game.

I'll mention the title in my comment if I feel it detracts from the image though most of the time I don't read the title.

I guess along with camera equipment I should by a book of Synonyms.

So let's see..

My new title shall be something like

"ecliptic lots of ecliptics"

Same here.. I never read the titles.. I look at the photos..

Man Im steaming over this one.

I would have preferred the person saying my photo was crap because the colors were off or out of focus etc..

I really had high hopes this was going to beat my personal best..

i consider the title to be a part of the complete package...it can convey what the photographer was feeling or what he/she wants the viewer to feel. i feel my titles are an important part of my work.

I must also say... just move on. Some members will not look at the title to help them understand your thinking on a pic. Others will downgrade you because of your title. Hahahahahaha.. what a joke.

We must be honest though, this is after all suppose to be about photography and I can understand the originators concern, frustration and even (anger).

What I don't like is that the giver of "that" comment is doing it from behind his/her bag.... Oh, well, it is after all a choice. As said earlier in another thread, everyone has their rights and it is our duty to respect it.... but it is not to say we must like it.

jseyerle, just move on, don't allow someone else to enslave your mind by constantly occuping your thoughts. Just move on. It's not personal, it's just the way it is.

Exactly.. I mean to completly point out how off base this person is.. lets consider the worlds most famous galleries. I dont believe they have hung any photos/painting up without titles.

The norm is for an artist to title their work.

Imagine this person at the in Paris.. Oh I dont like that patining because I think she looks more like a Jane Crabtree, not a Mona Lisa. Thus I think I will throw some paint at it.

Sending angry PMs about a comment, or talking about it in the forums is worse than a bad comment itself.

I agree with Sher, you present the photograph with the title and the viewer can ignore the title or take it into account in their voting. It is very much possible that someone gives you a lower score because of the title and the good part about the comment you received is that atleast the commentro told you why he scored you lower...
I feel its better than figuring out yourself at the end of the challenge, why you didn't score well. You know that your title wasn't good enough for some of the voters.

Oh well, Ive cooled off now.

Thanks though to all the great comments I have had on this challenge. The most comments ever and all were very very positive. Except one.

I would say he received a statement not a comment. There was nothing in the statement that referenced the photograph.

Just wanted to say that the SC is aware of this. We're discussing whether there is really any action that can/should be taken. My personal view is, though this voter won't win friends, (s)he is entitled to the opinion.
Normally, cut/paste comments are frowned upon, however they are not strictly against any rule. When used selectively, like this, I can't really see that they violate rules or ToS. My advice is to laugh it off and move on.

I agree with him, he should have posted in the forums about this that way we can come to together as a majority and deal with it. you say it's not big deal until it's your picture that gets that comment.

the thing is, there's nothing to deal with. kirbic's advice was spot-on. and, if the SC deems that no rules are being broken, there's nothing a 'majority' can do, short of siccing slippy and kpriest on them ;-)

don't let one bad apple ruin a challenge for ya. most people that behave this way usually leave of their own accord, once they realize that they can't build a society of anti-socials.
