I was doing a reprint of a B&W I love for a gift. It brought to mind again my struggle about whether to remove the small barred window or not. To me it losses depth and some symetry but I'm emotionally attached to the current version. I decided to post it to my Photoblog and the first comment was "had you thought about cloning out the window?" I just can't see it straight anymore and maybe it's a 'six of one have dozen of another" deal but thought I offer up the two versions for some more detached appraisal. (PS: I purposefully chose to center the girls head with the archway askew..that part I'm sure about)

Leave the window. Without it it looks like you just pasted her onto another pic. |

Works better without the window for me. Aren't opinions grand?

Keep the window, the vertical lines compliament the horizontal lines in her dress, & it makes it seem real- and not just black space. |

Keep the window. I agree that it helps define the black space, make it real.

Another for keep the window, without it the dress makes my eyes hurt from the lines, with the window I have an easier time looking at the overall picture.

You would be lying if you removed the window. |

Hello,
I would take out the window but then try to "bring out" some detail in the tunnel. Not much but just a bit to give it a little depth. |

Thanks to all. This was my first thread start. Fun. Looks like it will be a coin flip then print frame send and let it go.

Keep the window.
When a persian makes a rug, he (she) believes nothing is perfect but Allah. And if the rug is "perfect," he (she) will intentionally introduce an error.
While the window isn't perfect, it lends a humility and a context to the photo.
Keep the window. |

Leave the window. It softens the image somehow.. makes it easier to look at.
