Hello.
I was wondering whether anyone here knows about a very wide prime for Canon?
It doesent matter if its mf or has to use some adapter, just as long as it is wider than 13mm and costs less than those 10-20mm zooms.
I´m considering buying a Peleng 8mm fisheye, maybe that will be enaugh for me. |

Peleng 8mm fisheye is a fun little lens. It's manual focus and you can get it on Ebay.

The Peleng is incredibly wide, and will leave dark corners on the 10D (I used this combination myself). That's not really a knock on the Peleng, it's a really nice lens for the price! The horizontal FoV will be about 160 degrees, vertical is, I forget, something like 105 degrees. A more expensive alternative (about hte price of those 10-XX zooms, LOL) is the Canon 15mm fisheye. It's a rectangular fisheye (image circle covers full 35mm frame) and is a bit less radical than the Peleng. It has very roughly the same FoV numbers as an 11mm rectilinear lens on the 10D, so it is very wide, and yet it's not too "fishy" if you frame just right.

I was also looking at the zenitar fisheye, perhaps that lens is more usefull?
But I was really hoping that someone would know about some wide rectilinear lens which could be fitted on the canon somehow.. |

There are no rectilinear primes that I know of to fit EOS that are 13mm or wider. There are some pretty wide rectilinear lenses, but they're expensive. There are three 14mm rectilinear primes:
Canon 14/2.8L, $1800
Tamron 14/2.8, $1100
Sigma 14.2.8, $900
The Sigma is supposedly better than the more expensive Tamron, the Canon 14/2.8 s not that well thought of (for a Canon L) and horrendously expensive. The next step up in primes is 20mm. The Sigma 20/1.8 is pretty well thought of and only $400. The canon 20/2.8 is about the same price. 20mm on a 1.6-crop cam is not really too wide, though.
Honestly, in reviewing the meager options in primes, I think you'd be better off with the Canon 10-22 zoom if you must have rectilinear. Otherwise, try out the Canon 15mm fisheye, or the Sigma counterpart; you might fall in love.

Here's another circular fisheye that you might be able to find at a reasonable price: Canon 7.5mm f5.6
Came across a mention of it at the bottom of this page about the Peleng. Check out that 6mm Nikon! |

I believe the 7.5mm f/5.6 is an older "FD" lens, different mount, not compatible with EOS cameras.

Yes, it is! If you really want a radical fisheye viewpoint, it's da shizz. Be prepared for quirky mechanical operation (the lock<>unlock ring that doesn't lock anything) and a lens cap that doesn't stay put, but solid mechanical build, decent optics and incredible DoF.
Also, since it's M42-mount, you can unscrew it slightly (a turn or so) for a quasi-extension tube effect and focus pretty much right up to the front element! Focus is normally a set-it-forget-it proposition, since the DoF is so huge.

I'll throw up another alternative.
Pentax *Ist DS at ~$600
Pentax-DA Fisheye zoom 10-17mm at ~$550
It'll give you 180degree fov at 10mm and 100degree fov at 17mm.

From wide to long.
8mm Peleng ($200), Sigma ($560 or so) fisheyes
14mm Canon ($1400), Sigma ($800), and Tamron ($800) (all non fisheye)
15mm fisheye from Canon ($580), Sigma ($470)
16mm Zenitar fisheye ($150)
You can look up the reviews on the internet, no comprehensive comparisons are available. I'm considering the new Sigma 15mm EX DG myself.
