To my great sorrow and frustration, it has been pointed out to me by Techo, that someone has posted my winning photo from the "Best of 2005" - "Flight" as their own on the DeviantArt web site. See it HERE!!!.
To say I am crushed, frustrated , shocked and ticked-off would be a great understatement. My heart is racing right now. This was the highlight of my photographic life, and I really feel totally violated.
What can be done about this, I do not know, but the feeling of sadness and frustration is almost overwhelming right now.
Just thought I'd say something about it here, among friends. Thank you Techo for pointing this out.
-Bill

Send a note to the sysadmin there right away. And I think you should send him a private message as well to remove the image immediately.
Looked at his profile--he's just a kid. Prone to take shortcuts.

Contact the S/C here through Help:Contact:DPChallenge General Inquiry. The site admins and S/C have been very thorough in making sure that crap like this has been taken care of in the past... Consider it a compliment in the mean time that someone thought enough of your work to STEAL it...

I am willing to bet none of "his" stuff is actually his. What sense of accomplishment can you get from posting someone else̢۪s work as your own and get high praise for it...are they that mental to actually be flattered by it? Ridiculous!!

I commented on the DA page, and also filed a violation report with the DA authorities. Hope that would help to take care of this.
I reckon theft of images is VERY common.
Maybe DPC SC might consider slapping a "DPChallenge" watermark on every image on this site?
PS And Bill, really sorry that this kind of thing happened to you. Hope you can feel better soon.

It's sad and pathetic of him for sure. Do what you need to to get him in trouble and have it removed, but like TC said, take it as a compliment and don't let it ruin your day. I could think of much worse things that can and probably will happen in your photographic career. Put it in perspective. |

deviantArt is full of art thievery...not just photographs, but drawings as well. It doesn't help that their administration is very lax on things like this sometimes...obviously since it's a literal rip (download and upload the same picture) they'll take it down, but eh. I'm not going to get on a soapbox about it.
I sent in a policy violation report, too...knowing dA it'll be taken down in a couple days. I only wish I could track down the originals for all the other shots he's posted...the only one that seems to be his own is his ID picture, and it's such poor quality that I can hardly believe he took the other ones. If he gets called on enough stolen pictures he'll probably be banned.. |

I want to thank those of you who have posted comments on the deviant site. It is still showing at the moment.
I have settled down somewhat, but still have that feeling you get when you walk into your house and find it emptied out - and yes, I know that feeling all too well. |

Wow, that just infuriates me!!!
Does this one look familiar to any of you? I could have sworn I saw this shot on this site recently, minus the border.
I thought I'd post it just to be safe.

I'd go straight to Devian Admin and let them know your thoughts and have the culprit kicked off both Devian and Dp. Another site I am a member of copyright your image as soon as you upload it,and it can not be removed or copied without the photographers permission. This is something that maybe Drew & Langdon could look at on this site.I feel just as bad as you do, to think there is a thief amongst us. |

I just wanted to post that SC have seen this thread, are aware of the situation, and are discussing any course of actions we may have.
Also, for the angry people who feel the need to bombard the users email with threatening hate mail, please remember that email harassment is just as much of a wrong doing as stealing a photo and saying it's yours. So please, refrain from sending threatening mail or hate mail, and let the people who are suposed to deal with these things deal with them.
2 wrongs do not make a right. |
