I want to submit a photo, but the file size is 1059 KBs on the Canon Zoombrowser page. I have no idea how to check the size of it in My Documents. Is there any way to change the size after I have taken the pic? How does it get set? I am a total newbie to digital photgraphy, but I love it and want to gain some mastery of it :) Thanks |

You need some photo editting software. photoshop or elements or gimp which is a free program.
Once you have some software to maniplate your image we can help more.
Good luck

Go to FILE > SAVE FOR WEB
Then you will get a screen that shows various compressed versions of the picture with the file size listed for that version underneath each thumbnail. You will also notice that on the right hand side of the screen, there will be a drop down to bump up the quality by percentage. Just adjust as needed to get to the file size you desire.
Hope that helps! |

ok...
the easiest way i have found is once you have resized to 640 pixels on the longest side go to file-save for web, on the right hand side there is a small arrow, click and then click on optimise to file size, enter 150 in the box and then ok, then save and rename.
is that ok?

Kev made some good suggestions as well. There is also a good tutorial that someone authored found at the following link:

well, now I cant get the pic into photoshop! When I am looking at the pic in My documents, yesterday I was able to right click and it would say "Edit with Photshop" as one of the options. now, that is not there. How else do I get to photoshop? Did I mention that I am a newbie? ;) ) |

As an alternative, can you open Photoshop, and in Photoshop go to File -> Open and then find the file on your computer?

I will put some time into after dinner, and will let you know if I can find it and resize it.
What exactly is the file? does changing its size change the picture at all? |

You will want to make a copy of the photo before doing editing. Do whatever you need to do to the copy and you can always go back to the original. Plus you may need the original file for verification if they ask for it.

WAAH!!! I have been workign furiously, and I followed that wonderful tutorial and got it all set up. I went to log in on hubby's computer, and it wasnt working. I think it is bc of mozilla, maybe? I couldnt even log in. SO, I brought it down to my computer, and just finally got everything together to submit it, and the contest is over!! It is 9:17 here in Washington, so I am thinking the contests run on Eastern time? I am so sad :(
I will go and post the pic in the Individual Photos forum, so at least it can be seen. What a heartbreaking thing |
