Sorry, I know this was covered before but I can't find the thread.
I have a ViewSonic A75f. I just checked their website and my monitor is not optimal resolution. When I tried to slide the bar for correcting to the recommended 1152 x 870, it wouldn't allow me to stop there. It goes to a higher resolution than recommended and when applied, the screen flickers and then goes back to what it was.
My question...is this a problem...and...will this calibration (if able to apply)correct the dark tones that I am not able to see.
Duh...not sure about that last question. Thanks.

Marjo,
It sounds like your video card may not support that particular resolution. The fact that your monitor flashes at the next higher resolution may indicate that the resolution is beyond the monitor's capability. You're prolly better off at 1024x768.
In any case, changing resolution won't help color rendition. You need to use at lease a software calibration routine such as adobe gamma to do a rough calibration, or a hardware-based system to do a complete calibration.

One reason the monitor may not allow the optimal setting could be the
video card. If it does not have enough memory to process 16million colors,
you probably can not get more than 800X600, possibly up to 1024X768 but
not likely more than that.

Thanks kirbic. What got me was it told me my monitor was calibrated to 1024 X 768 and that I should change it to 1152 X 870 after it did a check. Why would it tell me I could, when I can't? Oh well, never mind.

Can the adobe gamma software be downloaded online or is this a trip to Circuit City?

Adobe gamma is installed with Photoshop; if you are not using Photoshop, I recommend the following online calibration tool:

//www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html

Go thru the monitor calibration section, you should not need any additional software. You will need to figure out how to adjust gamma on your particular system (probably a part of your video card software).
Bookmark the site, recalibrate at least once every couple months.

Thanks, again. Great link! I've got it bookmarked.
