I like it but wish it were a tad brighter. I'm guessing you received low scores from those who aren't calibrated correctly. I can clearly see it's a cowboy hat, but still wish it were a bit brighter.
I like the black on black.

I don't even know for sure if my monitor is calibrated correctly. I do have Spyder2, but I think it still may be to dark as you mentioned :) Live and learn, I guess :o)

I don't guess that old rusted out cars are 'country life' anywhere but near where I live :)

Congrats to the deserving ribbon winners. Some great images in this challenge indeed. This was my meager offering.

I'm thrilled, my highest place finish to date on dpc. Here's mine:
Now to make myself go to sleep.
Congratulations to all of the ribbon winners. Well done!

My entry was called "COUNTRY DANCE HALL" and I am so "EXCITED" as I came 93rd place, out or 218, with an average vote of 5.626.
Not bad for a first timer..... THANKS to EVERYONE who voted, and commented.
"CONGRATULATIONS" to all the ribbon "WINNERS", as they so deserved it. Also "CONGRATULATIONS" to the TOP TEN as well, and everyone else who entered.....

Mine was a total last minute (20 minutes to be exact) idea. Obviously my score reflects it! LOL
And to think I defaced a woody for it. Oh well, overall we ended up with a very nice collection of images and nobody put their hand in their underpants. *gasp* :) |

It would be interesting to know where your photo stood in relation to others in the voting thumbnail page. I know you can see this for other photos but not yours. I'm guessing some of these could have fallen victim to being placed near some really great photos. I don't know about others but I do find myself having a harder time appreciating a photo that follows a truly great one.
ETA: Maybe the order in which they appear in the voting page could be made random for everybody?

Well I guess this will teach me to not edit a photo hungover and on a bad monitor. The image looked fine on my home monitor but when I viewed at work the next morning I realized I had oversharpened. Live and learn.

Well, apparently it doesn't really matter if your image is well done, focused, has a creative twist, etc. Mine ended up 184th. I had my doubts it would do top notch, but I really thought it would do better than it did. So much for trying to add an international flavor to a stereotypical challenge. |

Hey Ralston don't worry, I beat you at 216 out of 218. Had trouble with upload and pic came in too small to judge.

Congratulations to all the ribbon-winners, your photos were certainly among those I thought would do best!
Just wanted to give an official explanation for my little "screw-up" on the challenge; I totally misunderstood the topic *embarrased-smiley*. I took it as "Country Life" as in "Life in the country in which I live", and my entry was most certainly appropriate in that sense (given that swedish meatballs have an obvious connection with life in Sweden). Anyway, not much to do now but smile about it :)

I thought it was a great picture...can't believe it did that badly. Anyways seeing some doing Black on Black doesn't happen very often...I like it and voted it high... |

I think a bit of backlight would enhance the hat considerably. Otherwise, composition is very good. But don't take my advice, my entry scored 4th from the brown! |

i better place this outtake here
these outtake threads i start tend to get so lonesome
actually i was planning to take a few images of the plow and stuff in this open shed
than the peasant came to take a look what i was upto ..i interupted him he was watching the winterolympics on this sundaymorning
we had a little chat after i declared i was a man of good intention and i even talked him into posing for a sec although he was not at ease for images he told me..so am i replied
i took just 2 shots of the man..my entry and this one
the lighting and his appearance was pretty kool i think
very much like a farmer in our country would look on a wintery sundaymorning and getting disturbed watching the OlympicGames on tv by someone he dont know and whose appearance does not scream good intentions ;~))

I was happy with how well my entry did... despite ken's paultry 5 vote, it was my third best score to date and any score over 6 is icing, as far as i'm concerned.
anyone wanting to see my two outtakes can look here...

It IS random for everybody; each voter gets the thumbs in a different order.

LOL That is pretty funny! I think it would have done well in Country Life by your definitions :)
