This article states that Canon will stop developing SLRs. This article states a correction so that the headline reads "Canon considers halt to film camera development."

Either way, interesting stuff. As some of the people in my club like to say, "digital is almost here." ;)

Nikon stopped production on all film cameras except for the F6 at the beginning of this year. The future is now.

It's to be expected, as there isn't much that can be done to improve 35mm cameras.

My 10 year old Minolta 800si, uses the same medium as a brand new camera and produces pretty much the same results.

I'd bet they are "considering" it quite seriously. I can see selling a limited range of models, but to do new development at this point seems pointless. Why spend development resources on a market that is certainly going away?
Nikon surely made the right decision, though not sure why they didn't keep one simple full-manual film SLR for the educational market.

yeah, i think the key word here is "development". Like R&D. I think kirbic is exactly right.

And Minolta has bailed out all together, sad.

this it was obvious they would do this eventually. their film SLR are selling used for as low as $25. there's no money in that.
