I got roped into working the Zoo Dip booth at the carnival last night and had planned to cut out and grab my gear at 10:00pm (fireworks were scheduled for 10:30pm). Well, due to impending inclement weather (storms had already knocked the power out all over town that afternoon), they changed it to 10:00pm without any notice. ARGH!
They had already started firing them off when I got out of the booth, so, I made a mad dash for my studio/office up the street to grab my camera, tripod, etc. (Note to self: stop smoking...) I was able to get off a few shots before they wrapped things up, but I was so rushed I didn't get to set up like I wanted.
They'll be shooting them off again on Saturday night, but that'll be too late for the challenge! Anyway, I did get a couple decent ones and have submitted the one that I think is the best and most unique. Hopefully, it'll turn out better than my current two entries (which are TANKING BADLY!). HA
Good luck everyone! ;-)

Fireworks were washed out here by Mother Nature last night but the neighborhood kids are making up for it tonight. I'd go out but I fear they're not the specatular "ooh ahh" fireworks. Besides, I'm trying to get through "Flowers".
Hey Langdon, can we have a "No Flowers" challenge next? And I like flowers! :-) |

Got my first chance to really setup & take some fireworks shots, (a few of which turned out really neat I thought) the bummer.... IT WAS ON THE 2nd!! :( Tried going outside with some sparklers but only had two & the one turned out to be a dud... Guess I'm out for this one

I entered this one strictly for fun. I like my shot, it's not fancy and I'll probably brown .. but I don't care! I had fun with the family, they loved looking at all the pics, so I picked my favorite from the bunch and entered :) |

Had SO many choices. Not sure I made the right one at all. It's one of those love it or hate it shots so its going to be very interesting to see what happens. Either way I have decided to just make this one fun from the other challenges so I will be cool with whatever happens. :) |

I went out on the 3rd and shot my first, ever fireworks. They turned out ok, but I was over a mile away and nothing really spectacular happened. But I got my second chance on July 4th and I feel like I got some nice shots. It's all about timing. And I had over 40 minutes of practice!
Good Luck to all the entries!!

I still wanna go back to the 24-hour one so that I can break the top 100! (cuz there'd only be 50 entries) :) |

Gah! I have had zero time lately to come around this site, but have been shooting. Finally tonight I find time to come here and at the same time I am downloading fireworks shots. I rush my a$$ off to try to get one (any one) converted and resized (no adjustment time at all) and uploaded for the challenge and I missed it by 5 minutes!!!!
Gah!!!!
Hopefully this isn't violating anything (don't want to get in trouble), but here's what I would have entered, had I 5 minutes more:\
**REMOVED OUTTAKE**
Not sure if it is my best shot or not, but it's the one I picked to try to get ready in less than 7 minutes.

All my fireworks images came out really awesome. Whether they come to dp standards (I doubt it) I know in my heart they are magnificent shots. All the folks who have seen them in print say they are the best fireworks shots they have ever seen. Didn't enter challenge because I took them on the third, but for the fun of it and my first experience I was more than pleasantly pleased. |

I don't think it is a violation if you don't have anything in the challenge. |

It actually violates #2 of the FORUM RULES That states "Please do not discuss specific challenge entries or outtakes until voting has ended."
The photo has been removed, please review the rules regarding discussion of outtakes. Thanks. |

No problem, I don't want to get into trouble. It wasn't actually an outtake though, just the intended entry that missed the deadline - or does that make it an "outtake"? |

That is what I mean. I would think that an outtake means you have an entry in. If you don't have an entry in the challenge and you post a picture then it would seem to be just that... a picture. |

I tend to agree with you, but whatever. |
