The image formerly in first place has been disqualified due to lack of a valid original file.

Shoot, could we do the same with the first eight pics in the transportation challenge?? of course just kidding.

Congrats to the new winners, as well as to all the winners of this week ;)

It was a beautiful work of art esp with basic editing. Congrats to new winners!

I didn't participate in the vigilante thread, I waited until the conviction. No accusations, but no surprise either.

There was a short thread in rants that got locked "discussing" it a bit.

Probably best to just move on, nothing to see here, shows over folks...

Congrats to those that moved up - especially the new first place winner - Bucket - I love that shot :)

The only thing we know is that no original was supplied.

Hmmm, well, congrats to the new winners!

The conspiracy theorists will go wild with this one.

I'll go back to my few observations on that locked thread:

c) I will be even more impressed when it is validated under basic rules.

'Twas a great shot though. If it was merely a screwup, I hope to see another ribbon from gull...

Is it really that great to win a challenge BECAUSE another pic was dqed ?? I guess that the new winner still considers owning a red, or at least it would be my case. In such situation I think that the real winner should have a warning, with all his upcoming pictures being controled instead of removing his ribbon. Rules are too rigid here !

Thaaaaanks John, but "Lashing out" is a strong description for a critique. I stand by what I said and I strongly suspect that this person was pulling a fast one, so guilt doesn't come into it. If you put a shot up (legal or not) then you can expect it to get shot down at times, as well as win glowing praise.

Some people here are way too sensitive about expressing honest opinions. It seems unless a comment is glowing with praise then it's tantamount to an infringement of human rights. There were some great shots below that one that have been rightfully shunted back up, so what's the problem? Carry on wearing kid gloves if you like but you needn't take the moral high ground just because you don't like my tone. For the record, it's not a personal attack and I hope this experience brings the best out of 'gull' - and he may even find some of his comments 'helpful'.

It̢۪s too bad about the DQ. It was a nice shot. With all the criticism and now DQ, I'd be willing to bet we won't see much more of Gull.

Why? It was DQd for not supplying a proper original. It could have been done with basic editing but without an original to check there's no way to know.

Valid point, while being voted on or in a forum environment, but to take shots at an image that sits in the winner's circle (in the photo comment area) is poor etiquette IMO and has been considered as such for the couple of years I've been here anyway.

maybe, maybe not. it's unrealistic to ask people to only make construction/critique-type comments during challenge, then to make nothing but laudatory comments after. if someone is moved to leave a detailed critique when they see the image, and they just happen to see it after the challenge, so be it. (fwiw, jon didn't even have a horse in that race--makes anyone calling his comments 'sour grapes' a little inaccurate.)

I am curious about whether it is the newness of the photographer or the photo itself that inspired the comments. Would these comments have been made if the photo were say.. Heida's?
08/18/2006 02:15:06 PM · #24
I could tell the second I saw the photo that it wasn't done in basic editing. I'd be willing to bet the 'original' isn't missing.

I respectfully disagree on some of your point skip. The timing of the comment, along with the tone, was not just happenstance.

It's pretty darn rare that a blue ribbon winner gets "constructive" criticism after the results, and usually not in the photo comment area (unless requested). Yes, I've seen follow-up posted in forums along the vein of "why did this image...?", etc...that critiques the winners, and even then that's pretty darn rare as well.

Anyone can read the comments in the recently DQ'd image that this thread is about. I'll not say more but let each decide for themselves if any comments seemed disrespectful.
