Just out of interest. How long does such a suspension last?

It's different each time, depending on the circumstances. Drew asseses the situation and uses his judgement on how long he thinks it should last.

I just decided to ignore the numerical vote and obviously irrelevant and inappropriate comments and not get riled up. Why let "them" win?

Trolling is the exact functional equivalent of terrorism; inflicting harm in a random/unpredictable/illogical way in order to get people to change their behavior. It might be serious enough to get us to change how we travel, but I'm not going to let it change the way I take pictures.

Fair enough, but it *hasn't* changed the way I take pictures. The only thing it changed is where I post them. I was here FOR the numerical vote and comments, and when they stopped being a source of positivity in my life (whether constructive or complimentary), I decided to move on.

It was definitely not a case of being scared off by a troll. It was a case of starving the troll by not providing anything of mine for them to judge, that's all. :)

did you ever consider that the bad comments were perhaps left by people who just didn't like your images?

Come back and have fun!

I did consider that, yes. But I think the line "i like it its just u cant gety a better score than me-----1" pretty much says that yeah, this was a troll. Not someone with different taste in art. Someone who dropped my score in order to elevate theirs, and nothing more. Same with the comment "i love that picture but i am gonna give you a low score cause money is my thing---1" given to someone else's photo. There are others -- I'm only singling out that person because they made these statements publicly and because I was one of the people they chose to make them to.

I'm not whining (or "whinging" either ;) ). I only commented to stand up for someone who believes there are trolls on the site. There are. It's a fact. Not everyone who scores low is a troll, of course, and I've probably deserved some of the low scores I've gotten. But which ones were trolls and which ones were genuine appraisals of my photos was not sufficiently clear to make me a better photographer. It wasn't fun any more. I do hope that you're having fun, though, and I still enjoy looking at others' submissions occasionally!

one thing to keep in mind:

even if one person gives you a 'malice vote' - that has a highly insignificant effect when averaged in amongst several hundred votes.
