Quite amazing.
I've seen that done before, but with many many more hooks. I am amazed that so little flesh could suspend her, and whilst swinging, without something ripping.
What is even more amazing is how little it seems to bother the girl (though I could hazard a guess why, but could very well be wrong).
Good shots. Could be a potentially amazing shoot with a good backdrop and maybe the girl dressed in something a little classier than jeans and singlet *laugh* |

Did she do any Matrix-style jumps/kicks? :)
The most telling shot - the last one with the blood.
Makes me wonder if she's high on something to endure the pain. . .
The image you used as a thumbnail below, btw, is very well executed, imo

Reminds me of the ritual dances of native american indians where they put skewers through flesh on there chest and were suspended. Been some time since I read about but if memory serves it was a sort of coming-of-age type of thing. White missionaries attempted to ban it (often reported as banning the religions of the tribes, but really this practice was at the root of the bans). Genteel society found it offensive then as, no doubt, many will find this modern manifestation offensive. My reactions are more like "what's the point?", or "strikes me as people having little respect for their bodies". Photographically, it is excellently done as is most everything by jmsetzler. |

Do you by any chance know why she chose to do this? Interesting shots to say the least! |

Great series. It looks like she enjoyed herself. I can imagine the adrenaline rush from doing something like this... Thanks for the photos |

I think, as Annida said, it's the adrenaline thing. I, personally, couldn't imagine this at all... lol

Great shots, jm. Very interesting shoot. I've seen this done on tv several times. One guy even went into shock. Not something I would ever do! Thanks for sharing. :-)

Great shots. Very disturbing though.
Too be honest, I dont even know if they should be posted here.
Just not the appropriate forum in my opinion. |

Nothing worse in these than what sometimes shows up in the challenges...

I have never seen a girl hanging from hooks from her skin in any challenge.

In some cultures, it is part of the tradition of becoming a full adult to be hung up in this way. I don't see anything inappropriate about the photos. I actually enjoyed them because they show a different side of society. It's important to show every side, and not just what most people consider pretty.

I'm just wondering, John, what were the circumstances surrounding this performance? Was this some kind of show that people had to pay to enter, like some kind of circus act, or were there other people there doing the same thing for the "thrill" of it? Can you give some more details? |

No, I haven't either, but I have seen bleeding, slashed wrists, a bloody knife, an gun to the head. These images were intended to represent suicide or murder, which are much more disturbing to me than a little self mutilation. Those are just the ones from my recent memory, I'm sure there are others that have been submitted in the more distant past.
Perhaps this is more disturbing to some because we, as viewers, know it is a real event and not one staged for a challenge??

This is my last post.
This is not the place for that stuff. I will leave the site and not think twice.
I dont want my son looking at that. So call me a prude, or whatever. To be honest, I am probably gone now.
It was fun when it lasted. |

Good one John. I always cringe when I see stuff like that. A couple of weeks ago they showed someone on tele who put a drill up his nose, bah! It was a talk show and the whole drill bit disappeared. I really don't know why people do that kind of stuff.
Riggs, John did post the following statement in this thread:
** WARNING ** These photos could be inappropriate for some viewers. Parental discretion is advised.
The whole series is on his Pbase site anyway and not here. Stay on a while okay?

I saw these before breakfast. I still haven't had anything to eat! But, this is mostly for Riggs, I believe that when we start trying to restrict what photos are posted, we are limiting our understanding of nature and humans. If I had a child (over 7 years old), I would use these as a learning tool. A lot of kids around my town are into self mutilation. This gives you a chance to hear what your child thinks about the subject in a nonthreating way. |

This was a demonstration event... no cover charge and there were several people who did the hangings because, for whatever the reason may be, they enjoy doing it. It was also somewhat of a publicity stunt for the tattoo/piercing shop that hosted the event.
