Me too, more FS points needed and probably at least 10,000 hail marys. |

Kelli - just want you to know I see no difference between the score of 5.9677 you got on the hippo eye shot and a 6. Bottom line - it is a great photo. Edit to add: the frog, too. Love them both.

Thanks Catherine, I try! ;-) I generally do shoot on manual with my P&S, makes me think more and it's more fun. My next camera will be a DSLR...may have to rob a bank or two...
Here's an idea that I've just tossed at the Perth flea market: briefly, I come over and take pics of items the vendors want featured so they can put them on the website. I'll bring a mini-studio of card table, bristol board in neutral colours, tripod, etc. I'll shoot 2-4 shots per item, choose the best, PS it for uploading to the site, and do the PSing on site on my laptop. Vendors would put stickers supplied by me on items they want photographed, and supply a detailed list of items. I plan to charge $2 (CDN) per item per finished photo; for larger items like furniture, which has to be shot in situ, I'd charge a bit more as more PSing required to remove background. I'd come for no less than 40 items per visit so it's worth my while. And I'll get the vendors to indicate whether or not they will let me send the pics I take to stock sites.
Thoughts and comments welcome! |

Tiptoeing in....I'm not really here seeing what the Team suckers are up to I'm really working on my incredibly mind numbingly boring art theory assignment, honest. But while I wasn't here I managed to enter a stunningly sucky photo in Contre-jour. I love it, so I predict a record number of ones.
While I'm not really here I'll apologise profusely for my absentee suckiness, I've filled my hard drive and it's taking about an hour to do a basic edit atm, so I'm struggling to find time to edit the 20 shots I have to have for uni each week, there's been no time for editing for challenges. Hopefully I'll be getting a new hard drive by the end of the week.
Happy sucking :D |

I think I'm beginning to mind a bit being misunderstood, underrated, and underappreciated. But I'm sure this will pass. :-) qqq1 (That list bit is from Thomas who's typing with his back feet. Clever cat, that one.) |

So I definitely identify with that feeling. *hugs*
I think we need to call it the "qqq1 feeling"! We can just type "qqq1" whenever we're feeling like this and it'll be a quick and easy code type thing so we can get some sympathy without typing a bunch! LOL LOL
Deb, I meant what I said earlier about you being an inspiration to me. I love your work... you have a nice way of making the ordinary come to life. That's kind of where I'm coming from too.. I've got no beautiful landscapes to capture or models to pose for me. But I/we can still try to make the things around us special, and share that with others.

Thanks, Kelly. And I will, at some point. Just probably not this week, since I can't quite motivate my butt to go out the door and shoot this evening. I bought flowers to plant instead! :-) |

Okay - got the monitor calibrated (I think).
Now I'm having trouble with something else.
The photo colours in PSE 4 and PSE 5 look great, but when I open the photos in a browser, or even with Windows Picture Viewer, the colours are much different. The reds are washed out especially.
HELP ! |

Oh no I sneak back in and read this! Deb you make such beautiful images. they always have such a wonderful simply joyful feeling. And the highlight of a challenge for me is if I get a comment from you, you're one of the best commenters around. Please don't feel that way, you give so much encouragement to this community with both your images and your comments.
BTW your Sir Thomas looks just like my Domino , I'd post a pic but Domino refrains from having his photo taken. |

Heh! I had a cat named Domino. She was known as the hiss-growl kitty. She hissed and growled at everyone except me (and at me when she felt it necessary to remind me who was in charge.) I don't have any digital pictures of her, though. I'll have to see if I have one from the old-fashioned film days that I could scan.
And I still plan to vote and comment, and probably stick stuff in my portfolio. Just not inspired to enter challenges for a bit. |

Probably something about color profiles. I suggest posting a note in the tips/tricks forum - you'll probably get an answer within minutes.

Deb it must be the name, Domino is very bad tempered but his favorite game is the random leg attack.
A break from challenges can be a good thing it helps get some perspective back. I was starting to mind my scores but the enforced break has been nice although it was hard at first, I'm looking forward to being in a challenge again now. Mainly because the photo was a reaction against all the boring attempts at technical perfection I've had to shoot lately. I just took the camera out and did my own thing, broke all the rules and had a ball, I don't care how it does in voting...it's just fun.

I feel the same way. I find my self approaching my photo subjects with more flexibility and an open mind. I'm trying different angles, settings, etc. and trying to view the results through somone elses eyes. I have learned so much since I joined DPC last fall. |

Sigh.....
Raish fixed my Free Stduy DNMC 1, told me what he gave me, and I'm afraid that from what the voters are telling me.......it sucks.
Oh well.....
Still is "still" doing well at 6.2208, it looks like I'll have a third 6+ on my profile page whilst retaining my status.

For anyone who feels down about DPC scores, just go post some stuff over at eyefetch.com. You'll get big praise.
Then you might notice it comes regardless of the quality of the photo.
It makes me appreciate the more discerning viewers here. DPC ain't perfect, but if you focus on the people who you connect with, and listen to the constructive comments, it's much better than other places I've seen.

And you have come soooooo... close several times. That must be really frustrating. You'll have to think of a really good treat for yourself for when you finally break that barrier. |

I agree. I think the quality of photography is very high here, as well. To ribbon or come close you have to knock out some pretty stiff competition. Heck, to get 5.5 you have to have a good shot here. I've learned a TON from this site. |

Votes Cast: 31,000
That's a lot of votes. :-) |

Well, I'm sorry to have to drop a little wisdom in here now, but in carpentry it's usually said that if you can hit something and move it, then it can move back, so it needs fixing. Whether or not the universe needs fixing I wouldn't know, but it keeps on changing. |
