I want to do a photoshoot for the "Chains" challenge

I'm really excited about the concept and I really want to do it. It's just bad timing I guess. I had a lovely abstract image I wanted to enter in the free study, but instead I choose something where.. the subject was a bit boring maybe but I thought the processing was really going to appeal to voters. And unfortunately my score starts with the number 3. I feel like I.. well this might be overstating it, but I feel almost like I betrayed myself. It's kinda yucky.

So I'm wondering if I should even take the risk.

I'm leaning towards giving it a try and doing the photoshoot but I still want some words of advice from you wonderful people. :-)

After the last two entries that I thought would have more "mass appeal" as opposed to the ones I really liked...yeah, do what you really like and to hell with the masses, lol. I give up on trying to second guess the voters, for me at least it doesn't work anyway so why not do what "you" really feel strongly about and see whether the voters agree, at least then you have the satisfaction of knowing you did what you thought was best and don't have that nagging feeling that if you had entered what you really liked it would have done better...Just my thoughts...

Thanks... three slightly different points of view and all very valuable.

Congrats to Raish for his 9th-place finish in Vanish.

And Quiet_observation has pulled off what has to be a first-ever feat: top 10 AND the brown ribbon in one entry. :)

Team Suck, be proud!

Raish, you haven't got to me yet. How many do you have left?

Edit: I just saw that you already posted you were half way through. Ignore this post. I am glad that I will get at least one comment. Thank you so much!

I want to do a photoshoot for the "Chains" challenge and what I imagine the final result to be is something that should appeal to the voters. I want to know if I should go through the trouble. My would-be-model is really pressed for time this week, and getting things organized will probably take a lot out of me for a day.

I'm really excited about the concept and I really want to do it. It's just bad timing I guess. So I'm wondering if I should even take the risk. I'd probably be happy entering another quick self-portrait or something that would be way easier. I'm leaning towards giving it a try and doing the photoshoot but I still want some words of advice from you wonderful people. :-)

Sounds to me like it's between you and the model. Offer up a bottle of wine and help take the pressure off your friend.

We don't drink, but substituting other things for the wine, that is a good idea.

My god I am so annoyed/disappointed by the backlash against the April Fools' stuff. Looks like some folk on this site really take themselves way too seriously. Some people have gone way down in my estimation.

(Note for clarity, this is not aimed at anyone in this thread, just coming in here to rant..)

Words of Wisdom?

If every photographer took the shame shot the same way.... wouldn't we lose the individual beauty that each person brings?

What we need is voters that view that individual beauty, not look for the perfection. Or maybe just not the guy with the best photoshop skills :)

I agree that the backlash has been probably too much. But also I personally feel that doing the multiple practical jokes was a bit too much as well, and that one would have sufficed. *shrug* I'll just be glad when this is all over and we can look back on it and hopefully more of us can laugh.

Except there are good points right now, too... if I had to submit a shot where I thought the voters would like it but they really don't... hehe, this is the month to have done it. 'Cause I can blame a lower score on bad mood april fool people and okay I'm rambling time to go to bed!

It'll be a chance to make up to yourself for your betrayal.

That's an interesting way of putting it, and it hit home for me.

I am getting clobbered on my FS entry, and I have finally just said "To Hell with the voters!".

The entry is me, through and through, and it's something that is all me in style and technique.

Unfortunately, the genre isn't acceptable to the voters.

Funny thing is.......after all this is over, it's something that I will delightedly add to a collection that I'll spend the rest of my life accumulating.

So.....do that entry for you, Kelly, do it EXACTLY as YOU want!

Is that your free study, Christian? That's a great score! And very good advice, Jeb. Heck, I may even go out and shoot something this evening.

Gotta say that buying, carting around, then assembling furniture (some of which equals my body weight), then playing golf when you haven't for quite some time (on a very hilly course), then traipsing around to castles on top of hills, followed by planting plants for an hour or so will REALLY do a number on your back if you happen to be getting a bit on in years. I can walk just fine. Sitting isn't particularly enjoyable, and getting up and down from that sitting position is particularly challenging. Sigh. Getting old rots! :/

For a teeny thing like Deb, even that is weightlifting, eh?

Someday I hope to meet her and get someone to take a pic of the two of us....it oughta be a hoot.

I'm 6'5", 342 pounds and Deb is, well........smaller!......8>)

Kelly, you have to try and do the photo shoot now, we're all so curious! I don't drink either (recovering raging alcoholic) - I absolutely love the sparkling apple and lingonberry juices they sell at Ikea and a few other places for celebratory / fun drinks.

Anyway, sounds like a great opportunity to try the old "match the result with the vision in my head" thing - I get frustrated by it constantly, but a tiny smidgeon better each time I try. Really hope you'll enter!

Edit to add: there's a slim possibility my FS entry will knock my owl off top place in my profile - should definitely be #2 if not! Yay!

This isn't Team Suck :-( You guys all have some AWESOME scores! Way to go!! It's great to see so many 6's. I am hoping for a 6 in my Contre-Jour. In the meantime, here are my sucky scores. (with the Free Study being my second worse score)

Oh well, contre-jour starts tonight, I hope that I am starting to get a feel for what is a decent shot. But I really, really like it, so it really doesn't matter what DPC voters think :-P

Yay, so happy, I sold my first photo on Fotolia today!!! Woohoo!

Lotsa good news going around - Kashi might have 2 6 scores in one week, Snaffles sold a shot, Jeb's got a 6 score, and Noraneko might have a new personal best! :)

Yahoo for all of you!
