I think we all do. EXIF data is parsed upon upload, and displayed on an otherwise typical photo page. I think we could also download the original if we wanted. |

From the Lawyer Joke collection:
Two physicians boarded a flight out of Seattle. One sat in the window seat, the other sat in the middle seat. Just before takeoff, an attorney got on and took the aisle seat next to the two physicians.
The attorney kicked off his shoes, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the physician in the window seat said," I think I'll get up and get a coke."
"No problem," said the attorney, "I'll get it for you."
While he was gone, one of the physicians picked up the attorney's shoe and spat in it.
When he returned with the coke, the other physician said, "That looks good, I think I'll have one too."
Again, the attorney obligingly went to fetch it and while he was gone, the other physician picked up the other shoe and spat in it. The attorney returned and they all sat back and enjoyed the flight. As the plane was landing, the attorney slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened.
"How long must this go on?" he asked. "This fighting between our professions? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in shoes and pissing in cokes?" |

Does it matter? if you are required to give them the original as part of the contest, they couldn't steal it. You have the file and the camera that took the image. It's part of the EXIF. |

There was actually a request for proof on your image. Not sure why you didn't get it. I should probably look into that. Simplicity was the first challenge where we implimented this, so maybe a glitch? But just so you don't feel left out...we did submit a request for proof. :) |

Maybe because we've been disqualifying 5-10% of the ribbon-winners for the last few weeks.
The rules state you have to have the original image. Asking for the top ten actually implies that we DON'T think anyone in particular cheated, unlike the DQ requests. |
Much thanks! I jsut sent a note explaining my situation.

I've submitted the original and the steps taken in post processing.
Is this normally done after the results are posted? The link on the email I got said that I should respond before voting ends but the email was sent after 12midnight.
Not having won a ribbon before, it makes me think that an actual disqualification request from a voter was made (perhaps within the last few minutes of the voting)... or this is normally done after the challenge. If my entry didn't win would I be notified of the fact?

The wording on the email is a generic one which is normally used during the voting period. In this case, the request is a "routine" one, necessarily made after the voting ended, but the same email was used.
As long as you followed the instructions everything should be fine. |

We have recently begun requesting proof on all winners. We don't know who the winners are until after voting is over, so it obviously has to be done when the results are calculated. Since this is new, and the request for proof is semi-automatic, the same email is sent to everyone. We're working on getting that fixed. Sorry for any confusion. |

I don't understand why such great importance is being placed on EXIF data as a means of accurate photo information. EXIF data can be easily changed and saved to the original file with no one being the wiser. If someone is willing to stoop low enough to cheat, I'm sure they would take all possible steps to cover their tracks as well.
Will this original file proof requirement realistically catch more cheaters? |

Great move there SC peoples.
If anyone is worried as they'll be away when a challenge finishes, which is a valid point, maybe there should be a way to submit the original before being requested, or maybe there is already.
SC can always simply ignore it unless relevant.
Certainly solves a hell of a lot more problems than it causes :)

What this will do is remove inappropriate ribbon-winners after a couple of days instead of after they've enjoyed the limelight for nearly a week.
If you have evidence of someone having successfully "cheated" you ought to be informing us instead of making generalizations.
Most DQ's are due to carelessness (not reading the rules about dates or filters) ... but the fact is we HAVE had some DQs. You are welcome to suggest a better system. |

They are just questioning our integrity Mike. But we aren't suppose to question theirs. |

I think the idea is to deter cheaters in the first place! As well as that, a lot of people break the rules without even realising.

As GeneralE said - people DO cheat (knowingly or otherwise). I really don't see how requesting proof questions my integrity. In fact, I should be so lucky to take a top 10 shot or one with enough pizzazz!

Couldn't you use the administrator note function available during the challenge voting? Same would apply if you were going to be out of town or away from the computer for a few days and you think you have a shot at winning - could you submit your original before you leave in case you won't have access to email for a few days?

I think that is an excellent idea. If your photo is scoring in the high 6 range or higher, it would be useful to do just this.
